This position reports directly to the Dearborn Truck Risk Manager.
This position will be responsible for the Dearborn Truck facility which includes Final Assembly, Paint and Body Shop. Also, have occasional responsibilities to support safety concerns throughout the Rouge Site.
Act as Safety Advisor (Subject Matter Expert)
Technical consultant and advisor in technical and non-technical safety topics, including national safety regulations
Coordinate implementation and continuous improvement in the facility’s safety programs
Directly responsible for safety auditing and reporting
Drive the SOS process of establishing/maintaining engaged and knowledgeable Elemental Champions to meet the Capability and Adherence Questions and associated requirements
Present the knowledge, confidence and ability to take provide "direction" when an "imminent risk of serious injury" has been identified
Effectively communicate and audit new initiatives, standards, regulations, significant incidents and management directives
Lead and/or participate in incident investigations as required utilizing the processes outlined in FAS08-020
Facilitate plant's Safety Process Review Board Meetings
Conduct appropriate audits and assessments as required
Conduct Risk Assessments for the site, including new or modified equipment
Liaise effectively with Statutory Authorities, OSHA/ MIOSHA and OHS Representatives as needed
Conduct, facilitate or advise as necessary in Machinery and Equipment Design Reviews and/or buy-offs
Liaise effectively with the plant Medical functions and where required, Security functions
Work in cooperation with UAW Health and Safety Representatives and Plant Leadership to achieve objectives
Work effectively with UAW representatives
Support / Actively participate with the TDL to manage and drive completion of safety training courses
Advise management as to compliance of the local and national collective bargaining agreements regarding safety topics
Conduct presentations and/or lead safety discussions with the operating committee meetings
You’ll have…
Must have prior Health and Safety Experience in the automotive or other manufacturing industry
Must have thorough knowledge of state and national OHS laws and Codes of Practice
Must have operational knowledge of corporate safety programs
Bachelor’s degree in OHS or related field
Experience working with the UAW
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as a team
Strong interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills
Ability to guide and influence all levels
Demonstrated conflict management skills
Strong analytical, problem solving and organization skills
