Facilitates and supports Environmental staff competency through teaching, consultation, collaboration and practice using current knowledge, research and technology. Develops implements and conducts basic and on-going training for continuing in-service education programs for staff. Assists with developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and internal standards. Provides support guidance for department quality and safety and acts as trusted advisor. Demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Trains, educates, and develops colleagues to equip them with the skills for excellent customer service.
Designs and implements training programs within the Environmental Services Department for Supervisors and first line staff in collaboration with Employee Education, as needed.
Arranges and coordinates staffing and scheduling of all training programs for the Environmental Services Department.
Collects, analyzes, evaluates, reports, and maintains training and certification documentation for the department.
Maintains an ongoing assessment of the training needs within the department.
Develops and maintains training materials and manuals.
Conducts classroom training for department colleagues at all levels.

Stays current with the advances in Environmental Services processes and procedures through periodicals, Networking, Internet, workshops, etc. Provides to updates and recommendations to Director.
Acts as a liaison to departments/units to ensure expedient response to patient and customer concerns.
Act as a resource person for the Environmental Services team in order to promote collaboration and coordination for patient satisfaction.
Assesse, plan, implement/coordinate and evaluate according to and in compliance with all accrediting agencies and SJMAA standards.
Assists with daily safety huddles with colleagues.
Responds to emergencies for night and weekend shifts as required.
Works in collaboration with Education Coordinators, Infection Control and Safety Officer to develop, present and evaluate educational programming for Environmental Services Colleagues.
Evaluates the practice/progress of new colleagues during orientation. Differentiates lack of knowledge from compliance problems and assists the manager with the performance planning process. Ensures colleagues understand the "Why" of Zero Harm and links it through continued education and evaluations.
Mentors, supports and facilitates Environmental Services Colleagues by maintaining a connection with all colleagues on all shifts to promote:
Communication
Consistent application of cleaning procedures
Access to new procedures
Provides feedback for 6-month and annual performance reviews as requested by Manager.
Assist Director/Managers with accessing and communicating results of Patient Satisfaction survey. Collaborate with Environmental Services, Transport, Linen and McAuley Inn Managers to develop a plan to reach and sustain at the top quartile or better.
Assume responsibility of Department Safety Ambassador.
Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMH.
Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms other duties as assigned.REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSUREEducation: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Able to speak and understand basic English.Experience: Minimum of 3 years progressive housekeeping experience in institutional/regulated industries, to include a minimum 1 year of leadership experience.Certification: CHEST (Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician) and CSCT (Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician) certifications. If no certification at time of hire, certifications must be obtained within 1 year of hire.REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability and knowledge to perform all duties and functions of an Environmental Aide, Specialist, Waste Handler, Transporters, Linen, Inn staff and Team Leader Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills. Able to implement and direct effective Guest Relations measures and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff, and other customers.
Demonstrated analytical skills. Able to administer department and health system policies, budget and resolve operational and interpersonal problems in the area of responsibility as well as skills necessary to supervise a large service operation.
Strong leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to motivate and build teams.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and conflict management skills. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret memos, chemical labels, postings, and other forms of written communication.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of JCAHO, OSHA, MDPH and other regulatory agencies.
Considerable knowledge of SJMHS and department policies, procedures and regulations.
Possess leadership, motivational, coaching, and communication skills.
