A reputable company in need of a Programmer Analyst has partnered with Robert Half to find someone with a passion for formulating and defining systems scope and objectives who also has a strong understanding of software and applications programming and industry requirements. Through research and fact-finding, you will make recommendations for developing or modifying applications or databases. Based in Lansing, Michigan, this is a long-term contract / temporary Programmer Analyst employment opportunity you do not want to miss.

Your responsibilities in this role

- Serves as the in-house guide for internal clients experiencing programming problems, consulting on applications, systems and/or processes for identifying and resolving, processing/reporting the issues. Consultation can include troubleshooting and/or education

- Evaluates processing procedures and suggests ways to improve

- Examines user requests for changes or improvements to systems. Writes functional requirements and assesses cost, feasibility and utility. Makes recommendations about how, when or whether to make the changes

- Provides continuing support for end users and other partner groups through continuing training and assistance for a specific application, system or process

- Creates dictionaries for applications and systems support by the analyst, and manages updates to maintain them

- Analyzes and documents issues. Works with other programmers to correct code problems

- Assists in the developing communication content for specific system changes being implemented in production

- Build and assess programming changes for every phase of systems development prior to implementation. Record test cases and expected results. Ensure results meet requirements. May develop basic tests or a defined subset of a larger system test. May make suggestions regarding acceptance/rejection if not all requirements are met

Requirements

- Comprehensive understanding of programming languages

- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively throughout all levels of the company

- Comprehensive knowledge of navigating basic office equipment and protocols

- Previous experience as a project leader for the business portion of developmental applications or major systems improvements

- Demonstrated success acting in a project management capacity

- General knowledge of mainframe hardware/software and PC operations required
