Job Summary:Provides overall technical direction and administration to laboratory personnel, ensuring system of laboratory testing operates efficiently and effectively. Regularly reviews and revises, as necessary, laboratory standards and ensures diagnostic procedures performed comply with all hospital, system and regulatory agency standards. Coordinates provision of laboratory services with other medical functions and serves as technical resource for departmental personnel. Meets and consults with system director of laboratory for policies, procedures, forms, instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and LIS to promote standardization across the system.Responsibilities:

Plans and administers directly, and through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of diagnostic laboratory procedures in accordance with all hospital, system and regulatory agency standards.

Ensures quality, financial, and customer service objectives are met.

Develops, secures approval of and administers capital and operating budgets in order to meet agreed-upon departmental goals and objectives. Develops and implements appropriate methods to monitor adherence to budgets and resolve variances.

Serves as technical resource to subordinates in resolving complex problems and in investigating and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and/or patient complaints.

Reviews and approves recommendations for department equipment modifications, new supplies, and minor equipment purchases.

Recommends and secures approval of major capital expense items initiating bidding process with vendors and upon approval, warding bids.

Fosters smoothly running laboratory functions through timely and effective resolution of disruptions.

Ensures the attainment of objectives through the selection, development, training and evaluation of lab staff.

Ensures that all laboratory activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, federal, and governmental regulations and laws.

Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:Required:

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related fields.

Five years progressively more responsible management experience in an acute care facility with at least one year of frequent involvement with senior management, physicians, other health care providers, and external providers and purchasers.

MT (ASCP) or equivalent.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in medical technology, business administration or health services administration.
