Connect with your Talent Advisor for additional specifics.ResponsibilitiesUnder limited supervision, responsible and accountable for operation, maintenance and repair of the hospital refrigeration, air conditioning and ice making equipment.

Inspect, check and make decisions relative to the operation and repair of hospital refrigeration, air conditioning and ice making equipment including fans, controls, humidifiers and related systems. Follow manufacturers instructions and specifications in operation, repair and maintenance of systems and equipment.

Regulate and adjust refrigerant flow and valves to maintain required temperatures. Read thermometers and gauges and record readings. Use, replace and recover refrigerants, and maintain recovery equipment in accordance with CAA 608 guidelines. Set up preventive maintenance jobs and complete maintenance work. Detect, investigate and account for malfunctioning equipment and use hand tools and equipment necessary for minor, major and emergency repair. Work with and give direction to, Refrigeration Assistants, Mechanic II, Mechanic I and STA. Check joints for leaks, solder joints, trace control wires, replace valves. Change air filters and clean equipment.

Receive assignments and work orders. Review work orders for priority status and designated time schedules. Read and interpret specification, schematic diagrams and blueprints. Requisition materials and supplies; prepare and assemble materials, tools, supplies and equipment for work to be performed. Maintain items in stock, clean equipment and report on malfunctioning equipment. Protect equipment against mishandling.

Maintain all required records and documents relative to operation of refrigeration and cooling equipment. Maintain required records regarding the use and recovery of refrigerants and their disposal. Maintain appropriate instruction manuals, technical documents, schematics, and blue prints. Complete all work orders in a timely, legible manner in order that complete and meaningful equipment histories are maintained.

Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner.

Apply cost-effective measures in order to improve efficiency and support cost containment efforts while delivering a high quality service. Provides Values-Added customer service consistent with hospital policy.

Keep work area clean, orderly and safe. Assure proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.

Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follow safety rules to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participate in organizational and department programs. Improve patient safety in the delivery of health care by understanding and supplying the patient safety goal for SJPHS/Ascension of no preventable deaths or injuries.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to work with power equipment.

Ability to work with hazardous equipment.

RequirementsLicensure / Certification / Registration:

608 EPA Certification Universal or Unlimited Refrigeration and Air Condition Service required.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Related trade school or equivalent training required.

Work Experience:

Three to five years required.

Additional PreferencesExperience:

Knowledge of building automation systems.

Experience in a large campus is a plus.

Knowledge of steam, hydronic, PTAC and chilled water systems.
