Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.ResponsibilitiesPost Award Contract and Grant Administration (70%) : Provide comprehensive management of sponsored funds. Post-Award activities include, but are not limited to:

Meet regularly with faculty to review award contracts, provide financial management and projections, and offer analysis and advice/guidance on best practices for post-award management.

Independently reconcile sponsored research projects using M-Reports, M-Pathways, Human Resources Management System (HRMS), eReconciliation, Business Objects and other reporting tools to ensure appropriate use of funds.

Monitor personnel project effort following university and sponsor policies.

Interpret and ensure ethical adherence to University, federal and other sponsor policies.

Prepare monthly reports with revenues, encumbrances, and projected balances.

Set-up new awards including sub-project/grant requests, subcontracts, consulting agreements, hardship requests and cost-share.

Compile financial information to process transactions such as budget allocations, appointment change requests (PAR), and journal entries.

Assist faculty with progress reports (RPPRs and Award Change Requests (ACRs) including rebudgeting and extensions.

Perform required project closeout actions including review and resolution of UG and FSR reports.

Interact with multiple DLHS staff including colleagues in research administration, administrative assistants, project managers, and central offices such as Sponsored Programs, Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, the Medical School Grant and Contract Review office, etc.

Attend PAAC meetings, RAN meetings and other types of research administration meetings for professional development purposes and to convey information to DLHS research administration colleagues and faculty.

Maintain up-to-date training in relevant M-Pathways modules, Business Objects, M-Reports and other UM tools and resources.

Pre Award Contract and Grant Administration (30%) : Provide comprehensive management of preparation/submission of grant proposals. Pre-Award activities include, but are not limited to:

Serve as primary department research administrator supporting faculty research proposal submissions to federal and non-federal sponsors.

Interpret program announcement or other sponsor documents to ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines and deadlines.

Manage the grant submission process, from initial start to final submission, ensuring all sponsor and university guidelines and deadlines are met.

Initiate and support the internal routing process through eResearch to route the Proposal Approval Form (PAF) and proposals through institutional review.Contact research administration personnel in other departments/unit, as necessary, to include pre- and post-award contact information for the PAF.

Review applications for compliance with sponsor, university and department policies.

Participate in review/editing/formatting of required documents.

Prepare and submit documents for Just-in-Time (JIT) requests

Required Qualifications

Senior level: Bachelor's Degree and 5-7 years of progressive grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Intermediate level: Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of progressive grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

Exceptional interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team

Ability to work under pressure, set priorities, handle multiple assignment and deadlines.

Successful candidate must be motivated with a positive attitude and strong commitment to exceptional customer service, as they will work closely cultivating trust and rapport with a variety of constituents including department faculty and staff, Medical School and University administration, and sponsors.

Requires strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Adobe.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of policies and procedures, specifically related to sponsored projects and financial systems; familiarity with ORSP, UMOR, FIINOPS, eResearch, Business Objects, and Wolverine Access reporting tools including HR and Financial tools, faculty appointments and subcontracts.

Familiarity and experience with Federal and other funding agencies such as NIH, NSF, AHRQ, PCORI, foundations and the use of grants.gov, NSF Fastlane, Research.gov, etc.

Knowledge of UMMS and U-M policies and procedures.

Ability to generate, analyze and clearly present organized and accurate data to any level within the organization
