The Department of Cell and Developmental Biology (CDB) at the University of Michigan Medical School (Ann Arbor) seeks a highly motivated individual to work as a Research Laboratory Tech Associate or Intermediate. The desired candidate would be responsible for the management of a specialized cell biology laboratory under the guidance of the Principal Investigator. ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will be responsible for managing a research laboratory, conducting and troubleshooting experiments, recording and analyzing data, and organizing data for publication The candidate will train new users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques and supervise junior scientists, co-author manuscripts, and participate in weekly lab meetings and journal clubs. The applicant must be able to learn and develop new knowledge and skills to establish new experimental protocols and research directions; importantly, he/she must be able to contribute to the timely completion of project goals.The desired candidate will be responsible for ordering and organizing lab supplies and reagents, preparing common lab reagents and solutions, managing the cleaning and sterilization of glassware, disposing of hazardous waste, and managing a small mouse colony including but not limited to breeding cage organization, genotyping, and euthanasia. The applicant will also perform various cell biological, biochemical, and molecular methods including mammalian cell culture, plasmid transfection, immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting, microscopy, and DNA work (e.g., DNA preps; PCR, subcloning; mutagenesis). A two-year minimum commitment is desired; a longer commitment is strongly preferred.Required QualificationsResearch Lab Tech Associate: Applicants should have a B.S., A.B., or M.S. degree in cell biology/biochemistry or related biological discipline and 0-1 years of experience.Research Lab Tech Intermediate: Applicants should have a B.S., A.B., or M.S. degree in cell biology/biochemistry or related biological discipline and 1-3 years experience.The applicant should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as organizational and time management skills. The applicant must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
