The Lead Experience Designer will oversee experience design activity within cross-functional project teams, guiding/leading a holistic approach to experience design that begins with the customer and rapidly iterates solutions designing experiences that are delightful to use, technically feasible, strategically aligned to desired business outcomes, and viable at scale. (From concept through to definition). You are a design leader and a natural collaborator who brings multi-disciplinary teams together to set and drive a vision forward. You will partner cross-functionally across Ford, inclusive of Design, HMI, Marketing, Technology, Program Management, CX, and key business units throughout the organization to incorporate material, manufacturing, engineering, business requirements and processes into design progression. This role will be responsible for ensuring projects deliver prescribed outcomes and consistent deliverables for innovative experiences that solve problems and delight users. You are well versed in the practice of modern product and experience creation. You can take an acute understanding of customer and business needs in a complex and ambiguous opportunity space and lead a team in the right direction to design meaningful product and service solutions.

What you'll be able to do:
  • Scope project requests, develop and communicate level of effort, plan work in a team environment, adjust quickly to changes or new information, and escalate when necessary.
  • Inspire, and lead multi-disciplinary project teams, providing guidance and input. Help remove barriers to delivering the prescribed project goals and achieving specific, measurable outcomes identified in briefs.
  • Actively embody our culture and steward others in the direction of our shared values and ways of working inside the lab and with Ford.
  • Work across departments throughout the organization to create alignment for project and program outcomes
  • Maintaining high level of quality, accuracy, and impact in projects under your direction; ensure on-time delivery and meet / exceed the measurable goals set for the project.
  • Responsible for e2e holistic ideal direction-from inspiration and identifying research gaps/needs to building prototypes and MVPs. collaborate with others to refine and improve the ideas, communicate design decisions, rationale, and direction through design prototypes, presentations, and other design artifacts
  • Iterate designs quickly to inspire and improve new concepts and support rapid product development process. Incorporate material, manufacturing, engineering, business requirements and processes into design development process.

The minimum requirements we seek:
  • Bachelor's degree in Design , Engineering, Science, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Philosophy, or related field
  • 6+ years' work experience
  • 2+ years' experience applying human-centered design approaches, methods and tools to solve complex problems
  • 2+ years' leadership experience in Engineering, Human Factors, business, or related field

Our preferred requirements:
  • Proficiency with current design and collaboration tools (Figma, Sketch, Invision, etc) and a strong desire to always learn more about them.
  • Be a hands-on working project leader that makes to learn, mentor junior designers, practice human-centered design using a range of methodologies, actively leading ideation, and co-creation sessions to strategically define ideal experiences.
  • Clearly and persuasively communicate strategic recommendations across diverse stakeholders with variable levels of background and understanding - create excitement and demonstrate the "why" behind the "what"
