AECOM is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to join our Surface Transportation team in Novi, Michigan. This position offers an opportunity to play a key role in the delivery and growth of transportation projects throughout Michigan, with a focus on roadway and highway design, client service, technical leadership, and business development.The successful candidate will bring strong transportation engineering experience along with established relationships with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and local transportation agencies, municipalities, counties, and other public-sector clients. This individual will serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients, help identify and pursue new opportunities, and strengthen AECOM’s position as a preferred transportation partner throughout the region.In addition to leading and supporting roadway design projects, you will collaborate with project managers, technical staff, and business development leaders to develop client strategies, identify upcoming opportunities, support pursuits, and maintain long-term client relationships. This is an excellent opportunity for a transportation professional who enjoys combining technical engineering with client engagement, strategic growth, and team leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and perform transportation engineering and roadway design activities for urban and rural roadways, interstate highways, interchanges, and other transportation infrastructure projects.Develop transportation design solutions in accordance with MDOT, local agency, and applicable industry standards.Serve as a senior technical resource for roadway design, including horizontal and vertical alignments, roadway modeling, plans, specifications, estimates, design reports, and technical memorandums.Coordinate with clients, public agencies, municipalities, utilities, permitting agencies, and other project stakeholders to advance projects from planning through final design and construction.Establish and maintain strong working relationships with MDOT and local transportation agencies throughout Michigan, serving as a trusted advisor and technical point of contact on assigned projects.Participate in business development activities, including client meetings, relationship-building activities, opportunity identification, pursuit strategy, proposal development, interviews, and presentations.Support the development and execution of client account strategies designed to strengthen existing relationships and expand AECOM’s transportation portfolio throughout Michigan.Develop and maintain an understanding of client priorities, capital programs, procurement strategies, and upcoming transportation needs to position AECOM for future opportunities.Support project managers and business development leaders in developing capture strategies, scopes of work, fee estimates, and proposals for MDOT and municipal transportation clients.Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and other transportation staff.Perform quality control reviews of roadway plans, calculations, specifications, reports, and other project deliverables.Develop construction cost estimates and provide input into project budgets, schedules, and technical approaches.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants to deliver high-quality transportation projects.
