Perform maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and assist in the installation to new and existing plumbing, electrical and HVAC/boiler systems. Employee licensure will guide which work tasks will be more independent and which work will be assisting under the Plant Maintenance Engineer, Plumber, or Electrician.
Assist with building facility projects in MnDOT buildings and district rest areas associated with construction, maintenance, and repair so that buildings are kept functional and meet state codes
Perform construction inspection for multiple facilities projects, monitoring civil (site work) and general observer of structural, building, electrical, mechanical, indoor air quality, safety, and regulated waste removal
Maintain the preventative maintenance software program document that repairs have been accomplished.
Maintain parts inventory/materials and supplies: Order, track and restock parts needed so supplies are available when work needs to be completed to help reduce downtime, and complete work activities as efficiently as possible.
Operate and maintain the building security key card system.
Minimum QualificationsTo qualify for the Building Utilities Mechanic, applicants must meet all the following:
Current license as a Journey level Plumber, OR a Minnesota Class A Journey Electrician OR a Special Engineer’s Boiler License. Employee licensure will guide which work tasks will be more independent and which work will be assisting under the Plant Maintenance Engineer, Plumber, or Electrician.
Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects.
Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor trades plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment.
Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to perform the work safely and efficiently.
Ability to provide work direction to unskilled helpers.
Physical RequirementsA pre-placement physical examination is required for this position.
