This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and directing the agency-wide comprehensive workplace safety and health program, identify and implement workplace violence prevention strategies and lead the agency towards a culture of safety, health and wellness, across all facilities, field locations, and with regard to telework. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible to bargaining unit and state policy requirements related to workplace safety and health, including inspections and corrections to workplace environments.This position will have the option of teleworking; however, it will be based on the needs of the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion.Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of related professional-level work experience in the field of occupational safety and health.
Associates degree in the field of Occupational Safety and Health, or closely related field can substitute six (6) months of experience.
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or close related field can substitute one (1) year of experience.
Thorough knowledge of federal and state occupational safety and health rules and regulations, ergonomics, techniques of injury prevention, and hazard training.
Experience in conducting and developing safety trainings.
Leadership skills sufficient to effectively facilitate meetings and bring groups and committees to productive and solutions-focused conclusions.
Effective communication skills, to prepare and lead discussions and presentations with varied audiences.
Demonstrated ability to identify occupational safety and health problems sufficient to develop, lead, support and implement solutions.
Computer skills including knowledge of software systems such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and safety and industrial hygiene related instrumentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or other closely related field.
Certified Safety Professional certification.
Experience in developing and implementing occupational safety, health, and environmental programs.
Physical RequirementsMedium: Requires occasionally moving and transporting 50-pound items and frequently moving and transporting objects such as heavy tools and heavy file boxes.
