Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer or Principal Manufacturing Engineer to provide manufacturing and process engineering expertise for our large caliber ammunition (LCA) production programs in our Plymouth, MN offices. This position is focused on supporting the manufacturing process of large caliber cartridges and ammunition propulsion systems and supports the ammunition business segment at Armament Systems Division.This career opportunity is a great fit for self-motivated, proactive individual. This position reports to the LCA engineering manager and is responsible for providing engineering oversight and support on LCA programs
Work within a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team, to support the production process of LCA products including 120mm and 105mm cartridges and ammunition propulsion systems
Support and/or lead failure investigations, root cause determination, and corrective action implementation.
Apply knowledge of engineering and scientific methods, theories and research techniques in the disciplined investigation and solution of technical problems.
Understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
Communicate issues and status to program team, leadership, and customers frequently both verbally and in writing
Provide engineering oversight and interpretation of acceptance and qualification testing results
Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors and provide supplier/subcontractor oversight
Conceptualize and implement continuous improvement projects internally and with suppliers.
Implement and manage strong manufacturing engineering principals to ensure robust production process and high product quality. Examples are SPC, PFMEA, mistake proofing, GR&R, production readiness reviews, capacity analysis, value stream mapping, and first article inspections.
Create, publish, review and maintain technical documentation required for new and existing manufacturing programs.
Understand and verify conformance to program requirements and performance specifications
Basic Qualifications Manufacturing Engineer:
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university with 2 years of experience or a Master’s Degree in Engineering with 0 years of experience.
Experience working with customer engineering, vendors and subcontractors.
Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) across all levels of the organization.
Ability to travel domestically up to 25% of the time.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Must be U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications Manufacturing Engineer:
M.S. Engineering degree from an accredited university.
Chemical Engineering degree
Experience with ballistic testing
Experience with energetic materials including propellants and explosives
Experience working in the defense industry and/or with U.S. Government contracts
Basic Qualifications Principal Manufacturing Engineer:
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university with 5 years of experience or a Master’s Degree in Engineering with 3 years of experience or a PHD with 0 years of experience.
Experience working with customer engineering, vendors and subcontractors.
Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) across all levels of the organization.
Ability to travel domestically up to 25% of the time.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Must be U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications Principal Manufacturing Engineer:
M.S. Engineering degree from an accredited university.
Chemical Engineering degree
Experience with ballistic testing

Experience working in the defense industry and/or with U.S. Government contracts
Salary Range: $75,700 - $113,500Salary Range 2: $93,000 - $139,600The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
