TITLE: AVP of Application Development

WORK LOCATION: Kansas City, MO (Relocation assistance provided if needed)

ONSITE, HYBRID, or REMOTE: Hybrid (3 days on-site, 2 days remote), but more on-site to start.

SALARY: To be discussed

REPORTING TO: CIO

SIZE OF COMPANY: Under 600 but growing. 25 offices nationwide (no travel expected)

STAFF TO MANAGE: Managers + Sr. Managers of App Dev (around 60 in IT overall)

JOB SUMMARY: Our client is seeking an AVP of Application Development to drive excellence and execution within the Information Technology sector. The ideal candidate will not only possess the strong technical aptitude of an experienced engineer but also the interpersonal skills of a highly effective leader. This person will be an innovative thinker, who can balance budgets with ease and lead people through their own positive examples.The AVP of Application Development will lead development teams that produce high-quality, highly scalable, and highly secure enterprise-class software products with performance and reliability. This person will be responsible for managing multiple teams and the overall collaboration between other IT departments, business partners, and vendors to drive results. The AVP will ensure the execution of critical projects simultaneously while maximizing the utilization of resources. They will continuously increase productivity, leveraging automation and performing capacity planning. They will provide coaching, mentorship, thought leadership, and strong project management to development teams. “We are looking for somebody who has a high technical aptitude as well as a dynamic personality. A person with several years of director or higher-level experience. This person must have technical knowledge, particularly around software development, preferably .Net and Azure but open to someone with Java or AWS background. The ability to demonstrate leadership with technical issues, communication, and strategic thinking. This individual must be a team player with a balanced approach to results and respecting staff”

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Drive rigorous and regular product releases across multiple, complex software products
  • Implement engineering management strategies to maximize productivity, business value, and cost efficiency
  • Engage and align top talent through strong recruitment, mentoring, hands-on technical leadership, and career management
  • Deliver and refine the technology strategy, financial planning, establishing delivery plans, and overseeing the execution and delivery of project objectives
  • Provide strategic thinking and leadership related to a variety of applications and systems
  • Set the vision for an environment of ingenuity and creativity, and act as a role model for others in challenging the status quo to encourage innovation
  • Lead development teams and drive excellence

Essential Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:
  • Strong technical background in a variety of platforms and technologies
    • Expert knowledge of the .NET Framework
    • Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum
    • Strong knowledge of Azure/Cloud technologies
    • Strong programming background
  • Extensive management experience driving concurrent projects across multiple teams
  • Ability to interface with executive management and present ideas in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong business knowledge
  • Solid understanding of KPI reporting including utilization, profitability, and cost avoidance.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree is a minimum.
