Job SummaryThe Clinical Informatics Specialist leads teams and supports clinicians in the design, development, implementation, and optimization of healthcare technologies (including but not limited to the EHR) in both the inpatient and ambulatory environments. The Clinical Informatics Specialist understands future workflow and business process changes impacting the nursing, physician, and ancillary clinical teams to ensure the success of the implementation and ongoing system maintenance. This role will work with staff to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education, quality outcomes and providing support in accordance with organizational goals. The Clinical Informatics Specialist leads teams and is skilled in developing consensus and driving and supporting change. Additionally, the Clinical Informatics Specialist strives to understand clinical and departmental operational processes and incorporates this knowledge to execute best practices in both the clinical and information technology disciplines.Essential Functions

Collaborates closely with and communicates between DS leadership and the clinical/operational community to provide leadership for clinical system projects and system wide initiatives.

Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the usage of clinical information systems.

Lead the integration between clinical areas and DS regarding development and translation of business needs for service lines.

Manage workflow identification and business process changes to ensure the success and optimization of new or modified clinical information systems.

Ensure that new or modified clinical systems maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.

Support clinical users through education and instruction on features and usage of software.

Provide documentation support to capture process changes, new workflow, and comprehensive requirements.

Deliver reports that clearly communicate the results and/or progress of clinical system initiatives.

Make recommendations when system issues, anomalies, inaccuracies, and errors are noted.

Remain abreast of trends and developments including associated Epic software solutions/developments and healthcare technologies.

Leads governance teams comprised of clinicians and staff to drive consensus-based decision making.

Functions as the primary liaison between digital services staff and clinicians and medical staff to translate operational process needs into workable technology solutions. Creatively solves clinical challenges to meet the needs of technology requirements.

Participates in multidisciplinary and cross departmental initiatives related to the clinical applications. Recommends and implements system solutions.

Supports day-to-day usage of clinical applications and its integration with other computer modules and interfaces, including any new technologies emerging in the future.

Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships across the organization. Provides information to senior levels of management on the implication of policies and procedures being formulated and recommends specific action.

QualificationsRequired

Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences, Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related field.

2 years of relevant clinical work experience

5 years of relevant experience working with physicians, nurses, pharmacists

At least one of the following licenses or certificates upon hire:

LIC - Registered Nurse (RN) from State of Michigan

LIC - Occupational Therapist from the State of Michigan

LIC - Physical Therapist from the State of Michigan

LIC - Respiratory Therapist from the State of Michigan

CRT - Radiologic Technologist Registration - ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologist

LIC - Clinical Pharmacist from the State of Michigan

CRT - Medical Technologist, Certified (MT) - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology

CRT - Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology

CRT - Registered Dietitian (RD) - CDR Commission on Dietetic Registration

CRT - Molecular Biology Technologist - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology

Preferred

Master's Degree in Informatics, Healthcare Administration or related field

CRT - Board Cert Informatics Nurse (BC-IN) - ANCC American Nurses Credentialing Center
