Role: Data Visualization Engineer Duration: 1-year contract 100% remote in the US Must have EXCELLENT comm skills The Data and Reporting team is responsible for gathering, integrating, and aggregating data from a wide range of sources to support our State customers with federal reporting requirements and enable better metrics for determining the effectiveness of state employment programs. The goal is to provide self-service access to data that is secure, timely, and accurate, along with helping team members aiding data and reporting team members to understand the data structure, lineage, and inherent business logic. Role Description: The Data Visualization Engineer position will be responsible for helping deliver data to customers by designing, developing & maintaining visual display of all data sets generated by the Date and Reporting team for statistical and reporting requirements. This person will play the role of Data specialist and make an impact by storytelling with data in summarizing, profiling, sampling, visualizing, and analyzing terabytes of data. A Data Visualization Engineer will work as a member of the Data and Reporting product group on projects involving data discovery, assessing data samples, massaging and preparing data for state a federal employment reporting as well as preparing data for use in analysis of the effectiveness of employment programs. This role has the overall responsibility for establishing and evangelizing BI and data visualization services in support of the mission to states supporting America's workforce. The Visualization Engineer plays a critical role in enabling the ability to bring order and insight to the data. Responsibilities:

  • Build Dashboards, apps and Interactive reports leveraging data sources for the Tableau BI platform.
  • Create compelling custom visualizations and reports using Elastic Search, python, Go, or JavaScript.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business needs for insights & analytics, and mandated reporting for state employment programs.
  • Architect, develop, validate and communicate BI solutions such as reports, dashboards, KPIs and alerts.
  • Understand modeling constraints and create elegant solutions to both present and deliver information for easy consumption.
  • Define standards and procedures for best practices for visual intelligence design & development.
  • Lead re-engineering efforts for existing applications to align them with new standards and guidelines.
  • Carry out "hands on" development of data visualizations in support of projects
  • Advise management and technical staff on specifications of hardware and software related to the area of data visualization.
  • Develop and maintain thorough system documentation and training materials related to software and hardware used for visualization.
  • Able to identify incomplete data, improve quality of data and integrate data from several data sources.
  • Collaborate with Product owners and developers on the efficient use of Tableau and other visualization tools and how those technologies can be applied to effective data visualization applications.
  • Endorse open source tools & techniques in development, management and release process. Utilize in-house software effectively.
Job Requirements
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, Econometrics or equivalent/related degree.
  • 2+ years of Data Visualization experience using Tableau and similar tools.
  • 2+ years of experience with Elastic search, and open source libraries like D3. Js, Pandas, or NumPy.
  • 2+ Experience with Python, Go or JavaScript
  • Ability to quickly learn and gain a deep understanding of AJLA Reporting business processes.
  • Ability to perform a thorough analysis of complex data, draw sound conclusions, and devise actionable strategies.
  • Proficiency in at least one business intelligence tool such as Tableau.
  • Experience in architecting, designing dimensional sets and caching methods.
  • Expert in the visual representation of complex information for driving business impact.
  • Subject Matter Expert and Evangelist on enterprise data, visualization, data analysis, data modeling, SQL constructs and workload management.
  • Expert in SQL and Non-SQL tools for data analysis, report development and performance tuning.
  • Experience with one or more database tools such as Postgres, Teradata, MS SQL Server, MySQL, etc.
  • Creative mind, strong passion for User Experience.
  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Champions new ideas. Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Experience in Hadoop and Hive is a strong plus.
  • Expert in Dimensional Data Modeling and presentation layer design.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a highly dynamic environment with result-oriented mindset.
  • Detail oriented with proven analytical, problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in an unstructured and fast-paced environment, and have a high degree of self-management with clear communication and commitment to delivery timelines.
  • Proven interpersonal, communication and presentation skills - must be able to explain technical concepts and analysis implications clearly to a wide audience.
  • Above average capabilities with basic analysis tools of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in the use of open source software.
