This platform will be horizontally scalable, highly available, and will cater to current and future SaaS products' go to market strategies.As a Member of Technical Staff, you will design, implement and own quality of VMware’s SaaS commerce platform. You will be a key contributor to the design and handling of commerce transactions at scale and will get an opportunity to work on an enterprise class, modern application ecosystem. You will explore new functional/technical domains, identify optimization opportunities while continuously innovatingThis is a highly collaborative role where you will not only be applying your analytical skills but also your creative skills to find optimal solutions to problems across engineering, product and quality teams across the company. Come and help make history as we innovate along this journey of enterprise transformation to Subscription and SaaSSuccess in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?We are looking for someone who would be interested in building expertise in their technical skill set and craft while staying ahead of the curve and adapting to the latest, cutting edge cloud technologies. Your goals within the first 6-12 months on the team broadly look like the followingWithin first 30 days , get to know your team and develop a high-level understanding of your team’s technical architecture, code base and our role within the organizational landscape. Start to understand already built workflows, use cases and the code written to implement them. Understand our code quality, deployment and observability practices. Begin operating as a part of your team.
Within 60-90 days , build a complete understanding of the ecosystem from functional, technical, integration and domain point of view. Build a deep understanding of our applications and the role they play in user workflows and who our consumers are. Begin contributing to delivery of features to our stakeholders and get involved in the end to end release life cycle. Begin operating as part of the program.
Within 120 days and more , start to identify opportunities and technical optimizations within the team. Work with your team to brainstorm, discuss and propose probable solutions or be a part of an entirely new initiative that aligns to our goals. Identify potential optimization of existing workflows, performance and user experience
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?Write high quality, scalable, object oriented (or functional) code. We primarily implement in Java, but care much more about your general engineering skill than depth of knowledge in a particular language or framework
Design, build, and optimize cloud native APIs and microservices that scale
Integrate with the many data stores on our platform including NoSQL, RDBMS and in-memory data stores (MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB and Redis)
Deploy containerized applications and deployed to Tanzu Application Service (PCF) and/or Kubernetes and/or Docker
Document your designs, specs, codebase and code workflows
Work with engineering, product and quality teams across the company to build new platform features
Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
Hold yourself and others to a high bar when working with production systems. Be opinionated about your programming and design choices.
Deeply understand and implement principles of domain-driven design and reusable design patterns
Work in an agile development environment with geographically distributed teams and be an active member of agile ceremonies like standups and retrospectives
Deliver solutions using modern development practices like CI/CD, DevOps using automated pipelines and tooling
Bonus Points ifYou've built cloud native applications and distributed systems
You’ve worked on event driven driven architectures
You've already used the Spring Framework including but not limited to Boot, AOP, Data, AMQP and Cloud to implement solutions
You have strong communication skills and are able to skillfully articulate technical decisions, tradeoffs and complexity
You are a self-starter, enthusiastic and strive to "own" what your team builds
You thrive in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts and are not afraid of ambiguity
