SummaryThe SAFe Agile Technical Coach will support the program level implementation of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This role is aimed at identifying opportunities to improve coding and design processes and reduce technical debt.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships within development teams to consult and coach up to six Agile teams on process maturity and technical competencies; work at a tactical level with individual members of the development teams to enhance their proficiency in executing Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) processes.
  • Serve as a change agent who influences mindset and behavior, demonstrating the courage to challenge, advise, and coach teams.
  • Engage with teams and coach them on a journey of maturation through direct instruction, connecting them with experts, or suggesting peer guidance where necessary; while maintaining unbiased perspective when facilitating team conversations that encourage shared opinions and support psychological safety.
  • Foster and encourage a culture of agility, continuous improvement, and quality assurance at both the team and enterprise levels.
  • Employ coaching techniques to help teams and address gaps in the delivery processes with a focus on TDD, BDD, XP, secure coding principles and practices, pair programming, CI/CI pipeline, and automated testing.
  • Prepare material and assist with presentations and written communications to aid the training and education of team members and stakeholders.
  • Develop Agile Adoption Strategy – The Agile Coach is responsible for designing a strategy for the adoption and scaling of Agile. This includes every stage of adoption, from the introduction of Agile/SAFe and employee education, to fostering teams and cultures that practice Agile/SAFe, to sustaining Agile/SAFe methodologies, and continually offering strategies for improvement.
  • Educate Colleagues – The Agile Coach must educate employees on Agile principles and the SAFe framework, providing them with the tools to implement this process in their own work.
  • Provide training sessions and teach valuable skills that lead toward the adoption of Agile methodologies. This includes providing Agile thought leadership.
  • Mentor Team – As mentor, the Agile Coach is responsible for guiding teams on the SAFe Agile methodology, providing employees with feedback and answering questions.
  • Provide hands-on support to all employees, collaborating with people across widely varying levels and roles, leading teams toward deeper understanding and adoption of Agile.
  • Implement Agile Methodology – Develop SAFe Agile processes including analyzing existing processes, eliciting user stories from subject matter experts, and applying industry best practices and standards. This task entails implementing Agile process, principles, and practices across all levels and departments in the organization.
  • The Agile Coach must use techniques that increase collaboration, predictability, and transparency; and promote a culture of innovation. To do this, the Agile Coach must also embody the Agile principles and lead by example.

Requirements
  • +5-years of experience coaching, leading, and guiding full scale Agile transformations as an external coach.
  • +5-years of Software Lead development experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with proven experience leading and facilitating team meetings and work sessions, comprised of technical and non-technical participants at all levels of an organization.
  • Expertise in Scrum and Kanban Agile Frameworks and demonstrated experience with SAFe.
  • Experienced with Jira and various Agile software/tools.
  • Growth mindset; proven ability to learn quickly and apply practically, new concepts, principles, technical, and business knowledge.
  • Team Player with excellent interpersonal skills and the big-picture view.
  • Proven ability to initiate the sharing of knowledge and experiences to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Strong initiative and organizational skills to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong coaching and facilitation skills including building trust, creating psychological safety, and consensus building.
  • Versed in DevOps principles and practices including continuous integration, continuous deployment, automated testing, etc.
  • Versed in software delivery methodology and quality assurance processes.
  • Versed in Agile development techniques including TDD, BDD, and/or XP.
  • Versed in secure coding principles and practices.
  • Proven expertise in software architecture and familiarity with design patterns.
  • Experienced in Agile testing practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree specializing in business or related computer technology; or an equivalent combination of education and/or directly related work experience.

Preferred
  • Agile Coaching certification (i.e., Certified SAFe Program Consultant, Certified Team Coach, or ICAgile Certified Professional Agile Coaching).
  • Experienced with Pair programming.
