ONLY VERY STRONG CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR REMOTE, AND TRAVEL WILL THEN BE 50-60%.

The Machinery Safety Engineer will support all aspects machinery safety in the creation of Nestle Purina Engineering standard designs and in the execution of capital projects. This includes taking a lead role during machine risk assessments, engineering and design of hazard mitigations, documenting functional safety requirements, and providing technical support during installation and validation of machinery and systems.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Lead discussions during Machine Risk Assessments (MRA) that cover a wide range of process and packaging equipment.a. Support the determination of the type of hazard mitigations required for specific tasksb. Support the determination of the required Performance Level (PL) for hazard mitigations

2. Provide engineering and design of hazard mitigations that incorporate appropriate hazard mitigation techniques.

3. Document the safety functional requirements of hazard mitigations.

4. Support the creation of safety logic tables for use during Automation program development.

5. Provide oversight and technical support during the engineering and design of hazard mitigations by Factory engineering, local Project teams, and 3rd party engineering and design consultants and contractors.

Education/Experience:-High school diploma or equivalent and 10+ years industry experience OR,-Associates degree and 7+ years industry experience OR,-Bachelor of Science Degree in relevant technical field and 5+ years industry experience-3+ years performing engineering and design with a focus on electrical, automation and control systems (MUST HAVE)-3+ years experience in the specification of safety related parts of control systems, safety instrumented system design, and performing machine risk assessments (MUST HAVE)

Skills:-Working knowledge of Electrical Safety and Hazardous Energy Control Procedures (HECP)-Ability to lead the electrical and controls discussions during Machine Risk Assessments (MRA)-Ability to document the safety system functional requirements-Ability to use AutoCAD to view drawing files, use Microsoft Office products, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Acrobat.-Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

Working knowledge of the following machinery safety related standards: ISO 12100 Safety of machinery - General principles for design - Risk assessment and risk reduction ISO 13849-1/2 Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems - Part 1: General principles for design and Part 2: Validation ISO 13857 Machine Safety Safe Distances ISO 14120 Safety of machinery - Guards - General requirements for the design and construction of fixed and movable guards IEC 62061 Safety Of Machinery - Functional Safety Of Safety-Related Control Systems

Familiarity with the following machinery safety related standards: ISO 13857 Safety Of Machinery - Safety Distances To Prevent Hazard Zones Being Reached By Upper And Lower Limb ANSI B11.0 Safety of Machinery ANSI B11.19 Performance Requirements For Risk Reduction Measures: Safeguarding And Other Means Of Reducing Risk ANSI B11.26 Machines - Functional Safety For Equipment: General Principles For The Design Of Safety Control Systems Using ISO 13849-1
