A full-time, non-exempt position to assist in care of horses and maintenance of facilities
for property consisting of semi-private dressage-focused boarding facility and private
artist studios.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This is a full-time position totaling 40 hours/week, with a schedule of four 10-hour days,
7AM-5PM. At least one weekend day required. Schedule TBD upon hiring. Reports to
Barn Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Perform daily barn maintenance tasks, including cleaning stalls and outdoor pens
- Feed and water horses according to established schedules and guidelines,
administer medicine or first aid if necessary
- Assist with grooming and tacking horses for owner and trainer on daily basis and
for clinics
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of barn facilities, including sweeping/leaf-
blowing aisles, tidying up common areas, dragging arenas using a four-wheeler,
etc.
- Handle horses safely and confidently during daily activities, including turnout,
tacking-up, and for veterinarian or farrier
- Use hand tools for various tasks, such as fence repair or general maintenance
- On occasion, assist owners with various tasks related to their art practice and
business
- Assist with care of poultry flock
- Maintain cordial relationships with the small group of select boarders
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Able and willing to work a flexible schedule including at least one weekend day,
being on call for emergencies, and generally being flexible to fill-in when other
employees are out
- Ability to engage in physical work for 10 hours/day throughout all four of
Montana’s seasons. Work includes a large amount of walking throughout the
property, being able to lift and or move up to 80 lbs, and an otherwise
combination of sitting/standing/squatting/bending/climbing fences, walking on
uneven ground, etc.
- Possess equine management skills and/or a willingness to learn and continue to
develop through on-the-job training
- Basic understanding of general maintenance tasks and use of tools and
equipment
- Familiarity with equine first aid, preventative care, and identifying behaviors
indicating problems (e.g., colic, lameness)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive oneself to work at property 15 minutes
south of Bozeman. Willingness to learn (if not already competent with) how to
drive truck and trailer
- Posses effective communication skills and an ability to work both independently
and as part of a small team
