Wolf Haven's Facilities and Animal Care Support helps provide operations support and animal care for the wolves at Wolf Haven's McCleery Ranch sanctuary. This work is critical to supporting the organization, its property, and most importantly the health and wellbeing of its resident animals. Additionally, the position helps provide regular upkeep and maintenance of our facilities, grounds under the guidance of the Operations Director.

Eligible candidates will align with Wolf Haven’s philosophy that recognizes each animal as an individual whose quality-of-life matters. Our decision-making processes give highest priority to the welfare of the wolves. Following best practices, and out of respect for the wildness of wolves, we take a hands-off approach to caring for animals in our sanctuary – for essential veterinary and husbandry care, we handle animals according to a system of safe contact; otherwise, no physical contact occurs between caregivers and sanctuary residents.

Responsibilities:

- Support Operations Director to maintain Wolf Haven’s ethical animal care standards

- Assist in cleaning and maintaining wolf enclosures, including removal of animal excrement and food remnants, and scrubbing water buckets and tubs.

- Provide regular upkeep and maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment, including cleaning enclosures, checking and setting trail cameras, maintaining or constructing lean-to’s or platforms, repairing fences, mowing, weed whacking, shoveling snow, checking and repairing livestock fences.

- Organize and clean shop tools and spaces and maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment.

- As necessary, follow established sanctuary safety, disease control, drug/equipment protocols and policies that reflect best practices. Take immediate action to address any safety concerns.

- Help monitor animals and complete animal care duties such as preparing enrichment and food, feeding, and providing water, and cleaning and disinfecting equipment and food prep surfaces.

- Help maintain detailed records of projects and animal’s medical and behavioral history.

- Potentially participate in catch-ups of sanctuary residents, as directed.

- Help maintain a positive work environment while promoting our mission and values as a sanctuary, and practice and encourage the compassionate humane treatment of all animals.

- For candidates with the interest and relevant skill sets: there are opportunities to support administrative tasks like developing protocols, creating media, participating in staff meetings or planning sessions, etc.; this is not a requirement but is optional.

Skills:

- Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of Wolf Haven, and a commitment to accommodating the animals’ needs in a way that reflects our values as a sanctuary.

- Highly motivated team player, able to work flexible hours and manage multiple priorities and schedules.

- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 115 lbs. with the help of a co-worker. This position also includes frequent bending and walking.

- Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time, under inclement weather.

- Ability to drive a vehicle with standard transmission, and maintain a MT state driver’s license.

- Preferred: experience caring for large canids

- Preferred: experience with heavy equipment (tractor, skid steer, etc), and experience driving a side x side, 4-wheeler, and/or snowmobile.

- Potentially proficient in basic computer applications (word processing, internet, etc).

- Obtain and maintain current CPR/AED and first aid certification.
