GBT CHILDREN’S ACADEMY

Position: Level I Teacher

Reports to: Program Coordinator Supervision: N/A

Salary: Depends On Experience

Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age.

High school diploma/equivalant

1 yr childcare experience prefered or will train

Job Description: Under the direction of the Level II (LII) Teacher, the Level I (LI) Teacher (A) assists in the management and supervision of the safety and physical well-being of children in the classroom according to the guidelines of the GBT Children’s Academy. (B) LI Teacher assists with and maintains a developmentally appropriate environment which will allow the child to grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. (C) LI Teacher communicates effectively and in a positive manner to children, parents, the administrative team and other staff team members. (D) LI Teacher participates in at least one (1) staff meeting a month, outside of Academy hours, and acquires at least fifteen (15) continuing education hours/training per year.

Major Responsibilities:

Children/Curriculum

1. Assist LII in implementing classroom activities.

2. Give undivided attention to children while in the classroom.

3. Supervise and monitor groups of children indoors and outdoors year around, assuring their health and safety.

4. Make daily observations of children upon arrival and throughout the day for safety purposes

5. Communicate directly with each child at the child’s level.

6. Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self-disciplined.

7. Maintain cleanliness and organization of classroom.

8. Encourage children to utilize appropriate health, safety, and nutritional practices.

9. Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and a high standard of quality in all classrooms.

General

10. Maintain the teaching and care giving standards established by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure.

11. Maintain current CPR and First Aid certificates.

12. Attend all staff meetings.

13. Maintain accurate attendance records, as well as complete all paperwork.

14. Observe for and correct/report any hazardous conditions of the building, grounds, or equipment.

15. Maintains confidentiality regarding issues concerning children and families, administration and staff of the Academy.

16. Assist in other projects as assigned by the Program Coordinator or other Administrative Team Member.
