Position Purpose:

The CDU Technician functions as a technician and supply aide to support in the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU). The tech also assists CDU patients with activities of daily living (ADL's). The tech works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Nature and Scope:

This position provides personal hygiene, mobility, safety and comfort to Adult and Geriatric patients as direct by the professional nurse. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of the uses of equipment specific to the area of employment. This position is responsible to annually demonstrate proficiency in body mechanics, fire safety, infection control, patient safety, CPR and safe handling of hazardous materials.

When functioning as a supply aide, the tech is responsible to stock the CDU with the required supplies, equipment, and instrumentation to ensure safe, effective patient care.

The tech will interface with all guests, visitors, families and patients arriving into, or calling the CDU. The incumbent provides directions and information as well as making appropriate referrals.

As a member of the CDU team, the tech provides technical skills and communicates effectively with supervisors, other CDU staff, physicians, and ancillary staff.

The demands on this position are very dynamic due to rapid changes in medical procedures, technical knowledge, instrumentation, equipment, and policies and procedures.

Requires the ability to perform an EKG. The CDU Technician performs phlebotomy once competency completed.

Other related duties and flexible hours may be requested.

The tech must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the adult and geriatric patient population served and meet standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards.

The incumbent is further challenged to possess the ability to function efficiently, accurately, and pleasantly under pressure, identify and maintain priorities, and to simultaneously respond to requests from a variety of individuals while remaining courteous and professional.

This position does provide direct patient care.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Excellent written/oral communication skills required.

Experience:

Six months Emergency Medical Technician (EMT I) or CNA experience preferred.

License(s):

None

Certification(s):

Current BLS certification by American Heart Association standards required.

Computer / Typing:

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days,the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
