Position Purpose

The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) RN is part of a team supporting the delivery of high quality, safe patient care through the successful use of technology and evidence-based practices. This position will partner with clinical, operational and IT leadership to ensure the successful adoption of the electronic medical record (EMR). Additionally, the CIS RN will participate in the design and implementation of information management strategies, tactics, and solutions to support clinical and operational excellence across the organization. This position is responsible for problem solving, testing and collaborating with end-users and project managers to develop solutions resulting in efficient and functional workflows. The CIS RN serves as a professional role model in promoting the understanding and integration of the EMR to optimize and enhance end-user efficiency and patient care outcomes.

The incumbent supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Renown Health, and ensures that services provided are efficient, effective and consistent with the goals and policies of Renown Health.

Nature and Scope

Key responsibilities of this position include:

Managing the organization's library of order sets, protocols, and their respective processes;

Researching, developing and providing guidance to the organization on best-practices and how to incorporate those practices into order sets and efficient workflows for Renown Health providers and staff;

Assisting team members in authoring order set content according to the established standards;

Overseeing development and implementation of a plan to maintain authoring standards for ongoing creation of order set and protocol content, including updates;

Acting as a liaison between clinical care and information technology, supporting all care givers throughout the care continuum in the implementation, learning, use, adoption, and optimization of clinical technologies;

Researching opportunities for EMR optimizations and providing workflow recommendations;

Communicating with clinical and operational leaders and endusers regarding IT projects, progress, barriers, and potential solutions;

Leading projects of critical and strategic importance to Renown Health, which involves collaborating with key business, technical and clinical staff to plan and deploy these projects;

Participating in end-user acceptance testing and validation of new build prior to release;

Providing clinical and workflow input for regulatory programs and implementation into Epic;

Collaborating with IT and Clinical Education in creating and editing tip sheets, educational materials, communication, and at-the-elbow support for clinical staff;

Functioning as the subject matter expert for the EMR and associated applications, assisting end-users with efficiency and troubleshooting within the EMR; and

Planning and developing quality assurance monitoring systems, including data collection and analysis, to determine a projects effectiveness in promoting changed behavior or incorporating best practices.

This position does not provide patient care.

Description

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelors degree in healthcare or related field required. Masters degree in business management, healthcare or finance preferred.

Experience:

Five years of health care experience in a position of increasing responsibility, including experience with the Electronic Medical Record. Experience in leading organizational change, in developing positive rapport with staff members who may be resistant to change, and in motivating others to complete their tasks in a timely manner strongly preferred.

License(s):

Ability to obtain and maintain State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.

Computer / Typing:

Microsoft Office proficient, strong computer skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Must have the ability to learn new software and assist (train) others.
