Responsible for performing professional level duties related to the installation, administration, and support of Technology Services Department (TSD) servers, applications, network infrastructure, and database systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Identify and respond to faults, errors, and performance degradations within applications, servers, and network switch infrastructure; performs daily monitoring of comprehensive, diagnostic metrics spanning all network infrastructures. Identifies and resolves network security issues; provides recommendations to improve network performance and stability. Operates and executes server back-ups, redundant mirroring, and restoration ability on all systems and databases. Configures and maintains systems ensuring appropriate workflows for application accessibility, functionality and security. Assists the TSD support team in all aspects of network infrastructure implementation, network security administration, systems administration, application support, and database administration. Configures and maintains firewalls, switches, routers and servers. Provides security and control measures across multiple computer platforms (e.g. enterprise server, client server, network, Internet/Intranet). Plans, develops, maintains, and administers network infrastructures and systems; plans, determines, and implements network hardware/software configurations including VOIP, wireless, switches, routers, cabling. Conducts periodic security assessments and disaster recovery preparedness reviews to evaluate effectiveness and compliance with security and business recovery measures. Performs as systems administrator and technical liaison for public safety applications. Assists with the creation of database instances and administration schemas where applicable. Troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software, and network related problems encountered by end-users of County network. Trains and coordinates with Technology Services support staff in the resolution of and troubleshooting of issues. Assists with the research and evaluation of network equipment, estimates costs, and makes recommendations for upgrades. Creates knowledge base articles and communication for end users. Assists with the Installation and troubleshooting of County network infrastructure. Projects short and long-term user requirements based on current utilization and trends. Assists in the development of strategic plans to leverage emerging technology to support future County needs. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team. Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

Education and Experience:Associate's Degree with major course work in information technology, or a closely related field; AND four (4) years of enterprise Information Technology Systems Administration, operations and maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Required Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of: Interdependence of software and hardware operating in a multi-functioning, multi-user systems and network environment. Principles, practices and techniques in the installation and maintenance of network hardware and software. Security administration/disaster recovery principles and practices. Monitoring and tracking network changes. Computer viruses, backup and recovery, and encryption. Concepts and capabilities of computer operation platforms. Use of systems management tools and problem analysis techniques. Operating system commands, systems integration and data communications. Physical network specifications/requirements and the OSI model of networking. Standard office organizational and communication practices and procedures. Record keeping principles and practices. Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Skill in: Interpreting technical materials. Communicating effectively in both oral and written form. Operation of general automation software, network management software, project management software, and network utilities. Installation and maintenance of servers, applications, workstation operating systems, routers, switches and other network equipment. Use of systems troubleshooting tools and techniques and problem solving methods. Maintaining accurate records of work performed. Preparing clear and concise documentation, user instructions, reports, correspondence and other written materials. Working without close supervision in standard work situations Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
