| In this role, the candidate is responsible for caring out outpatient care responsibilities with an emphasis on decision-making related to the steps in the nursing process to include: assessment, diagnosis, identification of expected outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation. As a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, formulates the initial plan of care with the medical provider (physicians, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner) and collaborates with them to implement a comprehensive patient centered plan of care to achieve expected outcomes. The registered nurse will provide professional nursing care including diagnosing and treating human responses to actual and potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, counseling and the provision of care support of or restorative to life and well-being in accordance with their scope of practice. Challenges to this position are delivery of patient care complicated by new techniques, paperwork, changing department and hospital policies, increased information available on each patient, and fluctuations in staffing. This position will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including third party reimbursement requirements. The occupant of this position generally works indoors with many pieces of equipment. These may malfunction and expose the incumbent to hazards. In addition, patients may be infectious with biological agents. Specific breakdowns for temperature, humidity, and other hazards may occur. The incumbent provides direct patient care, and he/she is accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and families. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standard.
