VP - IT Operations What Are They Looking For It was stressed on the intake call someone who is 100% cloud driven will not work in this role. We need an established leader, with security and regulation top of mind and control of operations.
- Must have an infrastructure background - it is not just operations
- Must get NV Gaming board license
- Experienced, tenure - no job hopping
- They would like someone who has been a successful VP in their past
- someone at a Sr Level, that has been a VP and worked with large companies, teams, and budgets
- They are very ok with taking a VP from another hotel (but they someone what know all the folks.)
- We need someone who can come in and foster a new team
- Has ability to be a self-starter, we need someone to come in and take ownership of the department
- Operational implementation
- Security background would be a plus
- Info sec is very important in the right person bc of how regulated Venetian is
- Someone who has worked in a highly regulated industry bc this will lend an appreciation to the cyber security side and allow they to work together and not clash to ensure there is a security focus
- There is an entire cyber department and Sean and Dan have a heavy background in this but the candidate needs to be open to working heavily
- Someone to train
- Someone who leads by fear, this culture is open collaborative
- Challenges with the most recent VP of IT Operations
- The person who was most recently in this role came from CISCO, was there for 8 months and ultimately not a great fit
- Last guy had a great resume but was more of a consultant and was very cloud driven, he had been an operation type person in the past but when he got to work he really lacked in managing a team, the folks underneath him did not find him engaging and led to a lack of respect
- He was somewhat absent and would not hold his team accountable
- We do not need a startup web 3.0, cloud evangelist, less of a techy person, more how to run a business that is this large and complex at a 24/7 operation
- It would be great if someone had experience with the cloud but is not a cloud evangelist, we do not need someone to get rid of current infrastructure, shut down all the data centers and move everything to AWS
- they are highly regulated by NV Gaming control board, they have these big massive scalable systems that are complex and it would be more expensive to "throw everything in the cloud", there is not a lot of variability in their business, the cloud doesn't make sense bc they are trying to capitalize as much as they can, they are cash flo positive so anything they can do to lower operational expenses lowers EBITA and they are an EBITA driven business
- We have to be careful about the cloud but we don't want someone with no cloud bc there are several initiatives that run in AWS, Azure, Google
- Venetian did not make investments in their infrastructure the past few years they did not have the time/bandwidth to set foundations We need someone to come in and start driving Venetian to where they should be
- They are upgrading storage, server infrastructure for VM Ware, virtualization stack
- They are using the modern version of IBMS Mainframe called the iSeries (they want you to know they have this technology they are needing to do an update on)
- This person would be involved with these massive infrastructure projects (this is what they would be walking into)
- No hair on fire, but work must be done, they would inherit a string leadership team
- This person will need to come in and "keep the lights on as usual" while simultaneously leading the team
- Smaller projects would be a massive for data strategy over the next few years
- There are individual leaders of NOC, IT Infrastructure, departments that will report under this person
- Security does not report into IT today, they work very closely with Cyber
- There are people director and below who this person can lean on
- They are going to want to hear from the candidate about themselves, how they run shop, leadership style, major projects, challenges they have worked out
- 2 - 3 interviews, first with Dan and Sean, with a really great candidate they would want to speak with (the current IT Ops guy) these conversations will be more technical and allow for a better understanding of the architect in current state
- This will also give a voice to the team
