Position Purpose: The EHS Manager will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for the Buffalo Water Project. This position will implement, maintain, and improve all aspects of the company's EHS program including training, compliance, health and safety program development, and compliance with applicable federal, state / local requirements. This role requires sufficient experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to affect short-term and some long-term business goals and safe solutions for our business and customers we serve. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Initiate and influence integration of EHS policies and practices into the business.Serve as a safety/compliance liaison with outside organizationsLead and manage a variety of EHS requirements and compliance implementation which includes regulations and permits governing the operation of a major water treatment and pumping operations.Recommend process safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemicalsOversee the testing of air quality, noise, and temperature levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations and perform or direct environmental monitoring as required by permits or Veolia; examine permits to ensure compliance with requirementsTrack and control inventory of safety supplies and equipment and work with the site leadership to keep adequate safety supplies on-handAbility to evaluate PPE and ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE.Work with consultants and contractors on related EHS issues; maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, and third-party contractors to facilitate emergency responseInvestigate accidents, injuries, occupational diseases, near misses and environmental issues / misses to determine root causes and preventive measures. Follow up to make sure all corrective actions were taken and completedReport and review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testingPlan and execute emergency drills simulating various scenarios.Modify and implement compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems; ensure effective EHS education programs are in place and conduct EHS education programs which include coordination of worker training in areas such as environmental and safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring and use of safety equipment.Help develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) support Capital Project design and implementation by acting as EHS subject matter expert and supporting contractor management on site.Conduct monthly EHS Meetings/Trainings and schedule as needed.Lead the Plant Safety Committee and coordinate regular meetings and maintain documentationManages all contractually required training programs for City of Buffalo employees.Responsible for facilitating regulatory updates to PSM/RMP, SPCC, Risk and Resiliency, Emergency Response and Site-Specific Safety Plans and other plans and initiatives as applicable. Maintain Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) and Hazcom programsProvides QA/QC oversight for certified laboratory.Manages hazardous and non-hazardous material disposal program(s) for siteServes as liaison to regulatory agencies for environmental abatement activities related to lead, mercury, and asbestos.This list is not all-inclusive and may include other duties as assigned and necessary for the operation and management of the business.
