Job post and application is available at https://www.birdsnestauctions.com/now-hiring-office-shipping-assistant/

Bird’s Nest Auctions | Derry, NH

$22/hour

Bird’s Nest Auctions is a growing estate liquidation and online auction company based in Derry, NH. As our shipping and transfer services continue to expand, we’re looking for a dependable Office & Shipping Assistant to support both our customers and our behind-the-scenes operations.

This role is a mix of hands-on shipping work, customer communication, and light office support — ideal for someone who enjoys detail-oriented work and interacting with people in a calm, professional way.

⏰ Schedule

Required: Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (our regular pick-up hours)

Additional hours: Mondays & Tuesdays (10-1, though we can be somewhat flexible if you need alternate hours)

Part-time position with potential for growth

What You’ll Be Doing

- Shipping & Packing

Securely packing auction items for shipment, with a strong focus on fragile, breakable, and unique items requiring good problem solving skills

Using proper packing techniques and materials so boxes can withstand real-world impacts during transit

Preparing shipments and organizing outgoing orders

Managing buyer transfers and organizing items for scheduled pick-ups

- Customer Support (In-Person, Email & Text)

Helping customers during Saturday pick-ups by answering questions and assisting as needed

Coordinating transfer pick-ups with buyers via email and text

Following up with customers regarding shipping questions or declined credit cards

Providing previews of current auction items when appropriate

- Office Support

Printing and organizing inventory labels

Assisting with light administrative and organization tasks related to shipping and auctions

Helping keep the office and shipping areas tidy and efficient

What We’re Looking For

Some prior experience packing fragile items, or a clear understanding of how to pack breakables safely

Willingness to learn our specific packing standards — training is provided

Detail-oriented and careful (this is not a rush-through-boxes kind of job)

Comfortable communicating with customers face-to-face, by email, and by text

Organized, reliable, and able to work independently

Able to lift and move boxes (within reason)

Comfortable balancing careful, accurate work with a steady pace — you care about doing things right and getting them done.

Experience with shipping, fulfillment, e-commerce, auctions, or estate sales is a plus, but not required.

A Day in the Life

On a typical day, you might start by packing a few sold auction items for shipment — wrapping, cushioning, double-boxing when needed, and labeling everything clearly. You’ll check in on pending transfers, send a couple follow-up emails or texts to buyers, and prep items for upcoming pick-ups.

On Saturdays, you’ll be the friendly face in the office during pick-up hours: helping customers as they arrive, answering questions, coordinating transfers, and occasionally showing preview items from current auctions. Throughout the day, you’ll help keep things organized, communicate clearly with customers, and make sure items are handled with care from start to finish. You'll also be the customer service contact for our on-site team, communicating as needed via Slack.
