Job Summary The Unit Assistant-Anesthesia Aide is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and monitoring specialty anesthesia equipment. He/she has responsibility for safety and infection control within the departmental areas serviced. He/she is responsible and accountable for assigned anesthesia duties as directed by the Anesthesia Department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.

Cleans, handles, and maintains all specialty anesthesia equipment according to manufacturers’ guidelines.

Notifies appropriate person(s) of defective or missing equipment/instruments.

Identifies a problem/issue related to equipment and develops an action plan for resolution. Works with OR Manager for implementation.

Anesthesia Aide contacts appropriate departments to resolve safety and cosmetic issues in Anesthesia Workroom and equipment.

Restocks items in appropriate locations. Daily check Anesthesia machines. Restocks and maintains par levels.

Assists with room turnovers.

Creates a safe/clean environment after each surgical procedure. Complies with policy for room/procedure breakdown, terminal cleaning of suite.

Recognizes an infection control issue / problem and works with appropriate personnel to develop an action plan for implementation.

Enters time in time keeping system and monitors self. Reports for duty and is prepared for responsibilities at scheduled time.

Demonstrates current knowledge of unit and departmental policies. Reads and initials memos / required readings.

Follows appropriate chain of command to resolve problems/request time.

Mandatory in-services are attended/documented. Maintains individual educational documentation in unit manual.

Other duties as consistent with this role.

Job Requirements: (education and experience/preferred and required)

Job Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of sterile and clean procedures

Knowledge of basic anesthesia needs within department

Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience as an Anesthesia Aide in an Operating Room, Endoscopy setting or Sterile Processing Tech preferred

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Must p ossess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
