Title:Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach & Operations (Part-time)Department:Intercollegiate AthleticsReports To:Head Men's Basketball CoachPosition Type:StaffPosition Summary:Under the direction of the Head Men's Basketball Coach, the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach will aid with on court training, competition preparation, and in-game coaching of the Men's Basketball Team, but is not a designated off-campus recruiter. In addition, the incumbent will assist with the day-to-day operations of the program including overseeing the daily schedule, coordination of travel logistics, and oversight of team equipment and gear. This position will also operate under university regulations and America East Conference & NCAA bylaws. NCAA Compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA rules, regulations, bylaws, constitutions and related university rules, regulations and policies. Essential Functions:Coaching Activities:This function finds the incumbent providing a full array of services related to the men's basketball team. By way of illustration and not limitation, this function:
Assists in organizing, preparing and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition preparation. This includes practice set-up and breakdown of practice equipment
Assist with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes in accordance with America East & NCAA regulations. However, this position is not a designated off-campus recruiter.
Assist in monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress
Assist with player development. Under supervision of the Head Coach, develop training methods to improve the overall skill development of players both in/out of season.
Assist in coordinating training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained
Assist with with video editing software and practice/game film breakdown
Promote a program culture of academic success and degree progress, and support The Learning Center’s initiatives in monitoring and advising the program’s student-athletes
Provides assistance in the coordination and administration of the day-to-day operation of the program
Serve as primary logistics and travel coordinator for the program, including transportation arrangements, lodgings and meals.
Manages team inventory of equipment and apparel
Secures practice facilities on a day to day basis for all home and away practice times.
Collaborates with visiting basketball teams on scheduling practice times and assists visiting teams with game day needs
Hires, supervises, and monitors the performance of student managers
Initiates and coordinates team community service initiatives
Maintain current health care certifications. (First Aid, CPR/AED)
Additional Functions:Performs other duties as assignedPrerequisite Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required
A minimum of two years’ coaching experience at the high school/competitive club/college level, collegiate playing experience or collegiate managerial experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students required
Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty
Knowledge of applicable team or individual sport and its playing rule
Must possess the ability to foster a cooperative environment
Must be able to organize and coordinate
Must have knowledge of NCAA rules
Must have the ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures
Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Computer proficiency
Valid driver’s license
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
