As a growing, mission focused, and future-oriented association of YMCAs, the Metro YMCA of the Oranges has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, mission-driven, candidate to join our team. Under the general direction of the Membership Director, the Child Watch Associate is responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive environment for children in their care. Major areas of responsibility and accountability include, but are not limited to supervising and interacting with children, responding to emergencies promptly, and providing positive reinforcement and redirection when needed, all within the policies and guidelines of the YMCA. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervise children in the Child Watch room and other assigned areas; scan room/area for potential harmful situations.

Redirect children using positive reinforcement and redirection techniques within the guidelines of the YMCA.

Engage with and welcome every child within the guidelines of the YMCA.

Engage with parents in a positive and respectful manner.

Ensure that all children are dismissed to designated parent/guardian.

Arrive no more than 10 minutes before the start of the room’s opening and stay until the end of shift, unless otherwise requested by supervisor.

Clean and maintain the Child Watch, Game Room, and Center at the end of each shift.

Attend and participate in open houses, program activities and events, staff meetings, and staff training as requested by supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Prior experience working with children is preferred.

Moderate knowledge of the ages and stages of children.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to understand positive guidance and reinforcement techniques.

Ability to react to emergency situations within the policies and guidelines of the YMCA and in a calm and professional manner.

Ability to work under minimal supervision and making sound decisions within the guidelines of the YMCA.

Ability to communicate with a wide variety of members and guests in a professional manner, displaying tact and diplomacy when needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, ability, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to perform activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.

SCHEDULES: Monday to Friday E vening shifts: 4:00pm – 8pm

Saturday and Sunday 8:00am- 2:00pm
