This position will report to the Director, EHS and have primary responsibility of supporting lab operations but will have exposure to all operations.A Day In The Life:
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permits at assigned site
Implement, develop, and roll out EHS programs in a new facility
Conduct environmental, health and safety audits
Carry out job hazard assessments and LOTO procedure development by partnering with key stakeholders.
Lead Safety Committee(s)
Maintain an on-the-floor presence and provide technical assistance and advice to operations managers and colleagues regarding environmental health and safety issues
Ensure the communication of environmental health and safety matters
Partner with stake holders to conduct accident/incident investigations
Oversee the EHS aspects of capital projects and facility expansions
Author site safety policies and perform procedural document reviews to ensure EHS risks are adequately addressed
Develop and provide training programs to ensure colleague knowledge and understanding of safety regulations and requirements including orientation for new colleagues
Support day-to-day operations
Management of chemical and biological wastes on-site
Maintenance of regulatory paperwork for various agencies
Active member of the building emergency response team (BERT) which could include HAZMAT and 1st Aid / CPR certifications
Review and approve contractor safe work permits
Responsible for promoting a strong safety culture through outreach initiatives, colleague, and management engagement
Manage site worker's compensation program, and incident investigation program and oversee the EHS database implementation for the site
Assist with the site Emergency Plan and the Emergency Response Team
Keys to Success:EducationBachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or similar technical discipline; training in core Environmental, Health and Safety disciplines is preferredExperience
3+ years experience in safety or environmental field. Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
Experience in local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance
CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), and/or CPE (Certified Professional Ergonomist) is a plus
Experience supporting scientists working in a laboratory environment
Prior experience administering OSHA’s Chemical Hygiene standard (1910.1450)

Good technical and project management skills to successfully lead multiple projects and daily responsibilities
Ability to make decisions and work independently and as part of a team
Self-motivated with the ability to develop and foster creative and innovative solutions
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills required, including the ability to interact with all levels of employees and outside regulatory agencies
Ability to discern and appropriately communicate sensitive issues
Demonstrated proficiency with computer/software applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Physical Requirements / Work EnvironmentMany duties are performed while sitting at a desk or conference room, (e.g., operating a computer, using a telephone, or writing and analyzing data and/or reports, attending meetings). In addition, walking or standing within the office area is required for conducting inspections, drills, participating in agency inspections, conducting EHS audits, assisting and may serve as an incident commander in Emergency Response Time (ERT) activities.
