The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Manufacturing – Cokemaking & Ironmaking team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as an

Electrical Technical Officer. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

The Cokemaking process is an integral part of our manufacturing operations and is one of the first steps in creating Iron and Steel. Our Coke Plant Asset Development team are responsible for providing strategic maintenance direction for the plant and equipment whilst driving improvement in our asset performance. The operation of the Cokemaking plant relies on a skilled, specialised and motivated workforce that has a strong focus on Safety and the Environment.

In this essential role, you’ll provide technical guidance and support on equipment, PLC’s (programmable logic controllers), Data Networks, Drives, and Instrumentation within Coke Plant 2. You’ll develop, manage and maintain the maintenance strategy for Process Control and Instrumentation equipment. You’ll capture and analyse essential data in order to assist with problem solving, improvement, and strategy development of these Coke Plant assets.

What Will You Do?

Sharing your knowledge and providing technical guidance to the Asset team, shift support, and operations, you will:

  • successfully lead and contribute to a safe working environment
  • conduct fault finding on PLC, Drives, Data Network, HMI, and Instrumentation Systems
  • complete modifications and/or enhancements to technical equipment through plant modification control
  • coordinate maintenance activities for technical equipment
  • assist with decision making through the capture and analysis of maintenance history data
  • support Capital project plans by preparing submissions, scopes, contactor packages, and supervising tasks including commissioning

More About You

Utilising your technical ability, problem solving skills and highly consultative approach, you will bring:

  • either tertiary qualification or diploma or trade qualifications
  • a current NSW Electrical License
  • experience working in a similar heavy industry - operational, process, or technical environment
  • demonstrated experience with Technical equipment (PLC, Drives, HMI, Networks) - fault-finding, determining root cause and recommending corrective measures
  • developed communication and influencing skills - building constructive and effective relationships
