Optical Engineer - Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers
Job Category: EngineeringTime Type: Full timeMinimum Clearance Required to Start: NoneEmployee Type: RegularPercentage of Travel Required: Up to 10%Type of Travel: Continental USCACI is looking for an Optical Engineer - Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers to join our NSIS (National Security & Innovative Solutions) division, to support the exciting growth of our Photonics team. Our laser communications technology will enable NASA to provide high-definition video from the International Space Station and send data back to the earth from asteroids 250 million miles away, while our custom laser transmitters enable next-gen LIDAR sensors, and our RF Photonics technology creates a whole new class of unprecedented capabilities. Do you have a passion for innovation? Apply now and join the team! What You'll Get to Do:Technical Role- Act as an Optical Engineer for complex photonics programs in areas that can include free space optical communications, laser transmitters for remote sensing, and RF photonics. The Optical Engineer has responsibility for technical solutions related to optics and have an ability to provide technical expertise and interact with other engineering domains required for a program's success (mechanical design, electronics, signal processing, etc.). Below are examples of possible activities.
- Develop new tools and techniques as needed to continuously improve our ability to model and understand key phenomena related to photonics hardware, including rare-earth amplifier physics, light propagation in optical fibers (single mode and multimode), nonlinear optics, and other effects related to fiber lasers and amplifiers that operate with high peak and high average optical power.
- Suggest and develop new photonic capabilities and designs, both in support of specific programs, and in support of growing the organization's overall technical capabilities that will be leveraged across multiple programs.
- Provide technical support for ongoing programs with respect to communication internally and with customers. Summarize and present data needed for effective communication about CACI technology and programs.
- Act as contributor for new proposals, generating both the ideas as well as potentially contributing to the formal proposal documents needed to win new business.
- Supervise and direct the work of technicians in the development, modeling, and testing of optical systems. Participate in experimental work.
- PhD in optics, physics, EE or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience (relevant work during PhD years can count too), or, Master's degree and a minimum of 4 years of additional related experience.
- Experience with one or more of the following (the more the better): fiber optics, fiber lasers and amplifiers, high-power bulk lasers, optical communications, nonlinear optics, ultrafast lasers, spectroscopy, integrated photonics, and RF photonics.
- Experience with developing analytical and numerical models for modeling/characterizing relevant effects with the goal of producing advanced design of systems/components in the above areas.
- Having experience of experimental work in an optical lab is a plus.
- Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain a Secret clearance.
