CACI is looking for a Optical Systems Engineer to join our NSIS (National Security & Innovative Solutions) division, supporting our photonics team we are expanding! Our laser communications technology is helping NASA provide high-definition video from the International Space Station, and to explore asteroids 250 million miles away. Our other optical technology can also help scientists discover biohazards; support intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions; and protect soldiers from explosive devices. What You'll Get to Do:

Lead the systems engineering effort for programs that develop new photonic technology and custom hardware for free-space optical communications, laser transmitters for remote sensing, RF photonics, and other applications
  • Support the growth of the Photonics team by contributing new ideas for the technical growth of our organization, championing our technology in personal interactions with customers, and proposal creation
  • Work closely with colleagues to derive physical, software and electronics requirements from optical performance requirements. Flow down requirements to any and all subsystems as required.
  • Maintain those requirements for the lifecycle of a program and develop verification methods for each one
  • Document requirements at the systems and subsystems levels, for hardware and software, and update as needed
  • Document requirements verification procedures and verification results, and maintain that documentation
  • Supervise and direct the work of both technicians and less senior optical engineers in the development, modeling, and testing of optical systems
  • Work closely with the hardware fabrication team to develop appropriate build and test procedures
  • Interact extensively with Government customers, during formal program reviews and throughout the program lifecycle, to negotiate requirements, present detailed technical status updates, and to identify new business opportunities
  • Develop accurate estimates of resources and task intervals for program managers, and track and meet schedule milestones and cost objectives

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Masters in Optics, Physics, Systems Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Experience with one of more of the following: fiber optics, fiber lasers, high-power bulk lasers, optical communications, nonlinear optics, ultrafast lasers, spectroscopy, integrated photonics, and RF photonics
  • Experience with requirements development software is preferred, but not required
  • Must be willing to pursue a security clearance

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • PhD in optics, physics, or a related field
