RN Lung Cancer Nurse Navigator Full Time Days

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lung Cancer Nurse Navigator is a professional registered nurse with oncology specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers. She/he is responsible for guiding patients through the process of lung cancer screening, providing early detection and prevention education to patients, staff, and the community at large, and recording and reporting lung cancer screening data. She/he will work with the multidisciplinary team to streamline the lung cancer screening process. If a patient is diagnosed with an abnormality, she/he will also ensure timely access and seamless coordination of services throughout the continuum of care. The nurse navigator functions as a liaison between the multidisciplinary team and community by providing medical information, education, and sharing knowledge regarding internal and external support services and resources. The nurse navigator will track patients to ensure completion of recommended testing, treatment plan and surveillance. She/he will identify and assist patient and families in eliminating potential barriers to care by identifying and referring to appropriate resources. She/he will serve as a clinical resource with expertise in lung cancer management. The nurse navigator will be an integral part of the interdisciplinary team promoting optimal patient care.

Oncology experience preferred. Certification = OCN.

EDUCATION:

Current Registered Professional Nurse in New Jersey; BSN required; Master's Degree in Nursing preferred

EXPERIENCE:


SPECIAL SKILLS:
National certification, Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), is preferred upon hire and required after one year of employment if not certified upon hire. Nurse Navigator Certification preferred, or obtained within 1 year of employment. Credentialing Requirements:BLS.
