ABOUT THE TEAMThe Audio Experiences group owns the core domains for Audible's Player and Library. Audible customers spend most of their time with Audible in either the Library or Player components of our application across FireOS, Android, iOS, and Web. We are embarking on a mission to reshape the fundamental experiences, delight our customers, and reshape how development is done across all surfaces and devices within Audible. It's our responsibility to push Audible into new places; wherever our customers are listening. Achieving this vision means expanding and strengthening Continuous Deployment across surfaces; new technologies like CarPlay, Watch, HomeKit, Common Encryption Standard media, and adaptive live streaming; as well as driving a strong engineering culture with processes like Chaos Engineering and A/B Testing.

Player team is responsible for building an audio listening platform that will improve how millions of Audible members hear and interact with spoken word content. We want to build an audio listening platform designed and optimized for the spoken word over other forms of audio entertainment so that comprehension and emotional impact is maximized for the listener. We own the end-to-end audio listening experience which includes player clients for web, iOS & Android, content security & digital rights management, content delivery infrastructure, and processing / synchronization of listening data across devices at a massive scale.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will
  • Develop, and test software components and applications for the largest creator and provider of audiobooks in the world.
  • Identify and resolve software defects by reviewing code errors, log files, metrics, using debug functions, and other troubleshooting techniques.
  • Work on an agile engineering team writing maintainable and scalable code for software components.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to imagine, design, develop, test, and launch software that impacts our - customers and inspires your peers.
  • Apply principles and techniques of computer science, engineering and analysis to solve problems of moderate scope.
  • Continuously improve the testability, operational excellence (OE), and documentation of the software components owned by your team.
  • Classify, store, and handle data in accordance with company policies.
  • Participate in the interview process and mentor other engineers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Proficiency in Java or related object-oriented language.
  • 1+ years of professional software development experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable, enthusiastic and willing to take ownership.
  • Communication skills - ability to think creatively and adapt the message to the audience.
  • Ability to provide information to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike and guide them to confidently informed decisions.
  • Well-rounded engineering skills; services development experience - If you've built something in your spare time send us the link, we'd love to hear about it.
  • Building and maintaining very high traffic web services.
  • Experience with REST API, Serverless, Microservices, CI/CD, and AWS technologies at scale in a production environment.
