- The Senior Cloud Systems Engineer will lead the operation, maintenance, deployment, and performance of cloud environments and will take the lead in physical architecture design and systems engineering reviews as well as release planning and coordination activities. The incumbent will ensure that the systems operate according to specifications, and when deployed to production will operate with a minimum of downtime.
- The incumbent will utilize a combination of cloud system administration, engineering, architecture, and programming skills to aide developers during the application development phase and to aide network, security and other personnel in both production and non-production environments.
- This position will have responsibility to supervise small, cross-functional operational teams that interact with the cloud landscape. This is a senior role with technical leadership responsibilities requiring interaction with IT personnel, OU staff, and external vendors. This role will also have budgetary guidance/planning responsibilities.
- With developers, participate in the architecture, design, and code integration of all components of online products.
- Provide trouble-shooting help (as the application expert) to System and Network Administrators; coordinate with cloud service providers (vendors) regarding troubleshooting.
- Set performance benchmarks for application. Review Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and work with developers to ensure that applications are built to meet the SLA.
- Lead the planning and execution of disaster recovery exercises for cloud environments working with business partners, vendors, and IT staff.
- Support Functional and Load testing, working with the Quality Assurance Team.
- Lead cross-functional team in cloud system/environment deployments; report results to management/leadership as needed.
- Research/document cost items as directed by the management/leadership and provide budgetary guidance.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or engineering field Req

- Strong Unix system administrator skills. Strong Perl/shell scripting, Strong Unix OS fundamentals, J2EE design patterns, multi-threading application development, Web Services architecture, Cisco F5, LDAP. Knowledge of Wily Introscope, Compuware, or other monitoring utility.
- Spoken skills. Strong spoken English skills required to engage in spontaneous brainstorming sessions with highly proficient technical peers.
- Presentation skills/size of audiences. Moderate presentation skills are required.
- Writing skills. Moderately proficient in written English to convey ideas via email and technical documents.
- Reading skills. Excellent English reading skills required to understand highly technical documents.
- Foreign language skills. None required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required as the incumbent will serve in a sensitive role as an unbiased arbiter of potential conflicts between development staff and network/system administrator staff. Included in the daily contacts are Developers, Quality Assurance Analysts, Network Admins, and Systems Admins who will work with the incumbent to identify root causes of application failures; mid- and senior level managers who will rely on the incumbent to deliver accurate assessments of performance issues.
- Troubleshoot and identify source of poor application performance at the network, OS, and application layers. This will require off-hours involvement as some applications are mission critical.
- Set up development environments for a variety of applications; work with other staff to transition from development to production.
- This is a senior level position and will require substantial individual decision making.
