Position Title: Systems Engineer

Location: Mount Laurel (will primarily be remote but for meetings/all hands in Mt Laurel office, not weekly)

Summary:

Qualified Candidate will be responsible for the detailed design, network acquisition, sourcing, procurement and deployment of data center and transport networks that provides switching, routing and connectivity to wireless small cells, macro cells or roof top sites, data centers and interconnect platforms for its wireless 5G network as well as the planning and deployment of the IP Core and 5G Core infrastructure into Comcast existing or future data centers. Candidates area of focus will be on the integration of container based platforms with the 5G core network.

Core Responsibilities:

- Supports the architecture, design, development, qualification and deployment of applications for 5G Core system

- Works with engineering project management and principle engineers to deliver applications that meet or exceed product requirements, project schedules and reliability.

- Works with the 3rd party vendor and operations teams to define technical requirements to accompany existing product and operation requirements.

- Designs and develops use cases in support of the technical requirements. Transforms technical requirements into architectures.

- Defines and documents a detailed design to meet technical requirements and architecture.

- Assists in vendor technical selection and management including input to specifications and vendor evaluation. Interfaces with outside teams in the development of internal and third party software to support the detailed designs.

- Works closely with Architecture and Test teams to ensure product quality. Prepares deliverables for trial and market readiness.

- Drives the continuous improvement of deployed systems by consistently looking for ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

- Supports operations by providing deployment and sustained engineering support for all responsible systems and technologies. Diagnoses and resolves escalated field issues.

- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

Critical Skills and Practical Experience:

- Experience and practical knowledge of Server platform: Dell, HPE

- Experience and practical knowledge of networking protocols: IPv4, TCP/IP, and UDP/IP, IPv6

- Experience with operational open source tools and technologies such as Prometheus, Alert Manager, Elastic Search, Kibana, Kafka, Grafana, Thanos, Redis, RabbitMQ.

- Experience in one of the following: Go, Python, C, Java.

- Good current knowledge of Unix/Linux environments.

- Experience with shell scripting to automate tasks and perform basic data analysis.

- Experience in Test-driven development/test automation, continuous integration, and deployment automation.

- Good communicator, able to analyze and clearly articulate complex issues and technologies understandably and engagingly.

- Great design and problem-solving skills.

- Adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership.

- Keen attention to detail and high level of commitment.

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced agile environment. Requirements change quickly and our team needs to constantly adapt to moving targets.

- Familiarity with distributed systems, asynchronous messaging, and network protocols.

- Familiarity with data serialization formats like XML, JSON and protocol buffers.

- High level of accountability - takes ownership of problems and sees them through to resolution.

- Minimum of 8+ years with a carrier or a carrier network vendor designing and managing wireless transport networks.

- Bachelor's Degree or Associates Degree or equivalent work experience.

- Working knowledge of transport protocols.

- Working knowledge of IP Address administration and domain management.

- Experience managing vendor relationships.

- Advanced understanding of wireless data network architecture.

- Experience and proficiency with Microsoft products including Excel, Access and Visio.

- Natural ability to work with all levels of management, staff, and vendors.

- Proven experience managing partner relationships.

- Proven experience with people management, with direct and indirect influence.

- Results focused, using energetic and positive leadership and communication skills.
