What You Will DoThis position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3 - ($119,200 - $201,100)Within this job, successful candidates will have to opportunity to support the Laboratory's mission by serving as the subject matter expert for nuclear facility electrical engineering matters, including all aspects of electrical safety, power quality, power monitoring, and critical power reliability/redundancy issues. Often in this role, engineers will perform engineering studies including short circuit, device coordination, equipment sizing, exterior lighting, fault current, and arc flash for both medium and low voltage equipment. Electrical Engineers in this position will work alongside junior engineers (e.g., fire protection, structural, mechanical, and electrical) and other senior engineers in team settings to complete collaborative full-system design solutions through mentoring, calculations, and leadership.Nuclear Facilities Engineer 4 - ($143,100 - $248,200)In addition to the description above, engineers in this position will work alongside junior engineers (e.g., fire protection, structural, mechanical, and electrical) and other peers in team settings to complete collaborative full-system design solutions through mentoring and leadership.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:

Advanced knowledge of new and existing non-reactor facility electrical engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of computer-aided engineering tools to solve operations-based engineering problems.

Advanced knowledge and application of nuclear facility engineering work planning and control methods.

Advanced knowledge and application of nuclear facility engineering in one or more of the following, nuclear criticality safety analysis, safety basis, system engineer, project engineer, or design engineer.

Advanced knowledge and application of engineering work, planning, construction, control methods, and project/process engineering/management practices.

Advanced knowledge and application of industry, regulatory, or national codes and standards including IBC, NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.

Additional Job Requirements at higher level:In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Expert knowledge of nuclear facility engineering in one or more of the following, nuclear criticality safety analysis, safety basis, system engineer, project engineer, or design engineer.

Expert knowledge of nuclear facility engineering work planning and control methods.

Recognized broad and/or unique expert knowledge of new and existing non-reactor facility electrical engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of computer-aided engineering tools to solve operations-based engineering problems.

Expert knowledge of engineering work, planning, construction, control methods, and project/process engineering/management practices.

Expert knowledge of and experience applying industry, regulatory, or national codes and standards including IBC, NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.Desired Qualifications:

Awareness of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies.

Extensive awareness of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides.

Awareness in Instrumentations and Controls-related designs.

Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to electrical, mechanical, or structural design implementation.

Knowledge in Geotechnical Engineering.

Advanced knowledge in welding designs.

Familiarity with LANL engineering processes and procedures.

Current registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineering certification.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
