Job Description

BASIC POSITION FUNCTION:

Responsible for technical/production support, process/product development and optimization of Aerospace and Industrial gas turbine systems for assigned areas and its applicability to NPI, Repair and OEM businesses. Leading significant project teams producing new designs, repairs and processes; utilizing Lean tools and methodologies to positively impact the business metrics.

Qualifications

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

8+ years of experience in the Aerospace or Industrial gas turbine engine mechanical design discipline

TYPICAL EDUCATION:

BS/BE in Engineering (Materials, Chemical, Mechanical or Aerospace)

MS/ME in Engineering is a plus

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/TASKS:

  • Candidate must demonstrate leadership qualities and self-starter capability.
  • Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Apply Continuous Improvement tools and concepts on process/manufacturing systems
  • Optimize the production process, product design using a robust lean problem-solving methodology, with quantifiable impact to business metrics
  • Develop KPIs to effectively manage process and product outcomes
  • Utilize project management skills to lead assigned projects/programs to successful completion considering technical, budgetary, manpower and schedule requirements
  • Collaborate effectively in an integrated process team environment to develop component designs and repairs, which meet site, corporate and customer requirements for schedule, cost, performance, and durability.
  • Engage with a team of engineers, quality, and operations at the site to collaborate on projects and development of robust solutions impacting site operational and financial performance.
  • Candidate will be responsible for making technical decisions based off customer requirements, experimental results, and a solid material/mechanical engineering background.
  • Owns technical aspects of assigned components and or processes from initial concept through all manufacturing stages.
  • Identify, develop, and implement tooling/equipment improvements. Troubleshoot process/production problems and implement actions/solutions, monitor sustainability of actions, and report out results.
  • Prepare accurate written technical reports, specifications, procedures, and manuals.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations of work to all levels of external and internal customers.
  • Trains less experienced technical staff
  • Work in a lab and field environments. Occasional travel required.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/PROFICIENCIES:

  • Knowledge of gas turbine manufacturing processes such as: Thermal Spray, EBPVD, Diffusion Coatings, Precious Metal Plating, Heat Treatment, Chemical Cleaning and Stripping.
  • Experience with robotic programing, PLC, automation, and control systems is preferred.
  • Experience with FAI, Concessions, RCCA, 8D’s, Gage R&R and Inspection Reports is essential.
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings and customer manufacturing specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma Methodologies, Black Belts preferred.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software in Minitab or similar is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Control Plans and PFMEAs are preferred.
  • Familiarity with NADCAP or similar industrial quality certifications is a plus.
  • Strong technical and effective communication in English, both written and verbal, are essential for success in this role.

DESIRABLE / BONUS IF:

  • Knowledge of design, inspections, modeling and analysis of new and repaired turbine, compressor, and combustor components
  • Knowledge of FAA guidelines for PMA and RS-DER requirements and compliance testing preferred, but not required.
