About Earth Care
Earth Care is a community-based organization founded in 2001 that trains and supports youth and community leaders working to advance social, environmental, and climate justice and equity. We recruit and train community leaders to invest in the vision, voices, and power of our communities to create a healthy, just and sustainable future. We organize across generations and cultures for environmental, racial, and economic justice. Projects and campaigns our members have organized include: YUCCA (Youth United for Climate Crisis Action), the Santa Fe Mutual Aid Network, Abriendo Puertas parent leadership academy, and many more.
Position Summary
This position will support Earth Care’s Environmental Justice program to protect the air, land, water, and communities in the Airport Road Corridor and identify and pursue community-driven sustainable economic development goals. Our environmental justice program is partnering with the City and County of Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Public School District, the Health Equity Partnership, Main Street NM, and the Southside Business Council to address environmental and public health challenges on the southside of Santa Fe. The EJ Organizer reports directly to the Environmental Justice Program Manager and is charged with recruitment, outreach, leadership development, campaign development and mobilization.
Responsibilities include:
-Campaign Development
-Contribute to the strategic planning process for the campaign plan, including actions and policy initiatives
-Co-design and organize events
-Support the team and help create a positive work/organizational culture
Organizing & Engagement
-Outreach/recruitment
-Coordination with partners
-Coordinate members & volunteers
-Co-lead and facilitate Spanish information and training sessions
-Maintain and expand a database of active Earth Care members and volunteers
-Represent the organization in the community with awareness toward networking opportunities/relationship cultivation and movement building
-Develop strong and lasting relationships with ally organizations, elected officials, government staff and community members to support the project and its campaigns.
Communications
-Support communications work with Earth Care staff and partners
-Co-create communications, like flyers, graphics, and other materials in Spanish and English
-Support campaign messaging development
Training/Meeting Coordination
-Assist in coordinating logistics for campaign programming, including guest speakers, transportation, space set-up, food, etc.
-Prepare training meeting materials, agendas, scripts, workshops
-Facilitate trainings and workshops
Required Qualifications
Personal investment in and commitment to Earth Care’s mission to educate and empower youth and families to create healthy, just, and sustainable communities.
Passion and commitment to social, economic, racial, and environmental justice.
At least one year of experience in outreach, community organizing, or campaign organizing.
Verbal and written Spanish/English bilingual.
Strong organizational skills: navigating competing demands, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs.
Ability to work non-traditional hours and days as needed, evening & weekend hours required for some campaign work
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience with the issues facing youth, BIPOC (Black Indigenous, People of Color), and working-class communities and experience supporting community-led solutions.
Knowledge of environmental science and public health issues, particularly related to community health assessments and air quality monitoring.
Understanding of and relationships within the southside Santa Fe community.
