About the Position: This position is located with the Logistics Readiness Center at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. Responsibilities Engage in leader responsibility for work operations of maintenance on heavy mobile equipment, vehicles and power support generators. Pass supervisor instructions to employees, distribute work among the work crews and check work in progress and when finished for compliance. Ensure needed plans, materials and tools are available, start the work while demonstrating proper work methods. Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain and repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, rear-ends, transaxles and fixed and mobile electrical generators. Maintain subsystems by cleaning, repairing, replacing or adjusting components as required. Utilize acetylene and electric welders to repair, modify or rebuild various mechanical components. Operate a variety of machine tools to fabricate, resurface and bore equipment parts and components. Operate hydraulic operated boom crane and forklift to mount and dismount generators. Recognizing obvious defects and diagnosing common troubles associated with diesel and gasoline engines; repairing, adjusting and testing equipment; utilizing standard test equipment and tools; utilizing welders to perform incidental repairs, such as: preheating, brazing and flame-cutting; and utilizing machine tools to perform standard work. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. Working environment is dirty, noisy, smoky, dusty, greasy, hot and drafty. There is a potential of cuts, burns, bruises, electrical shock, skin irritation, eye damage, and broken bones. Hazards are lessened through the use of safety shoe, shields, goggles, safety clothing and car plugs. Hazards are common to the occupations and, as such, are evaluated in relation to cited standards. Requires possession of a valid driver's license to perform incidental driving to and from work sites. Requires attendance and completion of various driving courses.
