The Hobbs (NM) News-Sun, an independently owned five-days a week newspaper, is seeking a press/production operator to join our team of four press operators and three mailroom staff.

We are looking for someone who can head the entire production team or interested in being backup to our head press/production manager on our Goss Urbanite six unit press and Mueller Martini inserter. Knowledge or willingness to learn NewsWayX and Screen direct to-plate making is a plus.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited work experience, time in role, etc.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:

Performs unit set up, which includes setting the ink, water and rails and webbing the press and hanging plates.

Sets up web and folder for necessary configurations for print jobs.

Scans printing for defects such as smudges, variation in color shades, and designs that are out of register (alignment).

Realigns printing rollers and adjusts position of blankets.

Coordinates printing and insertion activities and is hands on with all aspects of production and press runs.

Maintains equipment and press with basic maintenance and repairs.

Ability to understand/operate computer software in the plate production process.

Controls spoilage and waste.

Orders supplies and paper and coordinating delivering.

Keeps work area clean and safe.

Pay: $22 - $26 per hour or more based on experience
