Job Description

The Vice President, Industrial & Transportation Business Sectors is responsible for all aspects of the Industrial Manufacturing & Transportation services business for the Knowledge group in the US & Canada to ensure that the business successfully meets its financial and operational objectives. The Vice President engages with the commercial, service delivery, and technical teams to drive the daily operations of the business. Keys to success are the ability to develop a strategic plan, identification of key growth initiatives, and execution of the roadmap. The Vice President takes full ownership of the business and must collaborate with sales and marketing to develop a robust pipeline and manage the cost structure accordingly to meet the financial targets. Understanding market dynamics including demand growth drivers, new technology, competitor actions, and pricing analysis are fundamental requirements for success. The Vice President needs to define and implement best in class systems and processes to eliminate inefficiencies and must create a safe and productive environment for the employees.

  • Manages the day-to-day performance of the business to ensure that client commitments and financial objectives are achieved.
  • Coordinates with the Client Service Advisors (CSAs) to ensure that audits are scheduled in a timely manner, and that a high level of customer service is provided to the clients.
  • Follows up with the auditors and the technical team to ensure that reports are completed on time and that queries are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Manages the process to ensure that operational KPI’s (global and local) are met
  • Addresses client complaints about auditors and CSAs performance, investigates the root-cause, and takes corrective action.
  • Develops a comprehensive strategic plan to establish a robust pipeline of revenue. Strategic plan will include identification of key growth initiatives based on target market sectors and services to expand the business.
  • Defines and executes the roadmap to convert strategy into action with key milestones, timelines, and owners to expand the business.
  • Completes a detailed market segmentation analysis annually that considers the competition, technology, market segments, pricing/margins, growth rates, SWOT analysis, geographies, and client profiles.
  • Expand the service offering beyond Certification services and looks for opportunities to broaden our Business Enhancement capability into key areas such as performance assessments, supply chain risk management, training, and advisory services.
  • Establishes the systems, process, and procedures to effectively delivery the service. Proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiencies is important.
  • Determines the resource requirements (technical, commercial, and operational) to establish and grows the business.
  • Drives the recruiting and hiring process to secure the required resources in a timely manner.
  • Manages performance of employees to ensure a strong team is in place to deliver results. Also implements the right incentive plans to drive the desired performance.
  • Collaborates daily with the other business sector and functional area managers to ensure that we are leveraging our existing client base, technical resources, and reputation in the marketplace to aggressively grow the business.
  • Partners with the sales and marketing teams to define and implement go-to-market strategies, and to develop a robust project pipeline across multiple market segments.
  • Identifies any IT requirement in support of the business, whether internal or external.
  • Manages the P&L to ensure monthly and annual budget targets are achieved for both revenue and profit
  • Establishes a winning culture that embraces change, risk taking, and innovative thinking.
  • Maintains and develops knowledge and understanding of food certification services, standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations to ensure we stay on the leading edge of performance.
  • Provides commercial support to the department including input to tender compilation and project/contract coordination.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Takes a leadership role in creating a safe work environment for all employees and establishing a culture with high integrity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in related based subject (Business Management, Operations, Technical) AND
  • 7 - 10 years of relevant experience (Testing, Inspection, Certification) OR equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Language Skills: English, Advanced level of knowledge required
  • Mathematical Skills: Intermediate preferred
  • Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Advanced level preferred
  • Computer Skills: Intermediate level, Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition

TRAVEL

  • Travels up to 25% of time. Some travel might be international.
