Req Number 143796Job DescriptionProvides general counsel and advice regarding legal aspects of the activities, contracts, policies, procedures, plans and objectives of the organization. Consults with administrative and other personnel of the organization regarding their legal obligations and duties; as well as with outside legal counsel, and other consultants, on legal matters affecting System affiliated entities and personnel.Job Responsibility

Handles a full range of legal matters affecting the organization and its affiliates; researches and understands legal and business issues, responds promptly and objectively; stays current with laws and regulations impacting operations; maintains awareness of organizational activities to provide comprehensive legal advice.

Serves as a liaison to ensure outside professionals understand the business context and organization personnel grasp the impact of legal analysis; assists in developing and revising policies and procedures, including those related to health information management and research efforts.

Instructs personnel on reviewing agreements for business and legal issues, identifies opportunities to create model agreements and forms, and prepares these for use by non-legal staff to expedite business operation

4.Provides assistance with legal matters relating to the Medical Board and Medical Staff of and the patient care provided by the various hospitals affiliated with the organization; as counsel to the hospitals and medical boards, attends meetings including; Joint Conference/Professional Affairs Committees, the medical boards (as appropriate) and medical staff bylaws; monitors medical board, committee and hospital activities for legal issues, provides advice on appropriate action for their resolution.

Addresses legal issues in patient care promptly to support quality care; assists social work and discharge planning with complex matters; identifies and mitigates litigation risks by collaborating with Risk Management, Quality Management, Legal Affairs, and external professionals.

Coordinates credentialing issues for staff members, prepares and submits court documents for patient care, guardianship, and mental hygiene cases, represents System Facilities in court, and manages legal activities related to the health system's dealings with institutional lenders.

Supports the Department of Finance with post-closure institutional financing issues, provides legal support on labor, employment, and human rights matters, and advises on the impact of related laws and collective bargaining agreements on the organization and its entities.

Problems addressed are of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.
