The Business Analyst is an independent contributor with expertise in a variety of tools, providing value to the business through effective process analysis and requirements development and documentation. Manages large sized projects or programs or a portfolio of small projects where there is significant complexity, visibility/priority and risk to the business. She/he will collaborate with all Business stakeholders to understand the business process workflows and strategy. The Business Analyst must be able to identify issues proactively, resolve conflicts, escalate if necessary, and work across the organization to execute projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads requirements gathering sessions to understand and document complex business needs, often eliciting hidden requirements and/or clarifying vague or unclear requirements.
  • Possesses an in-depth understanding of the systems and technologies within the business area(s) supported.
  • Applies thorough understanding of business processes and user needs to formulate and define system scope and objectives.
  • Provides ongoing support to the business by responding to a variety of inquiries and issues regarding the systems or processes in the business area, ensuring efficient resolution with minimal impact to business performance.
  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of project management methodologies, tools and techniques.
  • Possesses familiarity with multiple technologies, business analysis tools, development methods and systems, and a basic understanding of programming languages.
  • Creates workflow diagrams to document current and future business environment.
  • Create requirements definition documentation and functional specifications
  • Serve as primary system administrator for several production system environments
  • Handle all basic administrative functions including user account maintenance, reports and dashboards, workflows and other routine tasks
  • Document best practices and standards relating to system usage, deployments, change management, and maintenance
  • Assist in the development of training documentation in conjunction with the Technical Director
  • Assist in training of new users, and grow production system skill set across the organization
  • Participates in the definition, testing, training, implementation and support of system requirements.
  • Identifies customer requirements, develops test schedules, reviews testing plans, tracks and documents the development and results of these plans.
  • Ensures requirements are understood, agreed to and signed off at the appropriate early stages in a project.
  • Ensures accuracy of functional requirements/specifications for handoff to development team.
  • Tracks progress of projects to ensure alignment to requirements; manages any deviations from requirements to ensure resolution.
  • Assist in Backlog grooming, Sprint and Release planning and management.
  • Interacts with others in the business and IT organization.
  • Alerts Technical Director of potential risks and issues of importance.
  • Understands the functions supported by the current systems. Understand and accommodate the requirement constraints imposed by the current systems.
  • Provides analysis of processes and workflows with suggestions for improvement. Identifies areas where technology can lead to increased efficiency and productivity.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a business analyst role.
  • Understanding of current business analysis tools.
  • Understanding of project management methodologies, tools and techniques.
  • Understanding of the applications environment and the project life cycle, processes and methodologies.
  • CBAP certification desirable.
  • PMP/Agile certification desirable.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with Agile or Lean methodologies and project management (JIRA, Confluence)
  • Documented experience with SDLC methodology and process
  • Excellent analytical, communication (both verbal and written), facilitation/organizational skills
  • Supporting projects within a media company and/or online business environment.
  • Working with software developers, technical and business management, department heads, product developers and QA teams.
  • Driving Quality Assurance (QA) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) cycles
  • Experience with Incident, Configuration, and Change management, ideally using ServiceNow.
  • Strong experience leading business requirements analysis.
  • Strong experience managing end-user system training cycles.
  • Comfortable learning, using, and explaining new technology
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, minimum.
