Experience also must include or be supplemented by one year of investigative experience.Children and family services experience may include, but is not limited to, adoption services, foster care services for children and/or adults, preventive services, and protective services for children and/or adults. Duties Description This position is part of the Child Fatality Review Team which focuses on standardizing the process for reviewing fatalities and writing reports within a six-month required time frame. This position is responsible for reviewing child protective investigations, child welfare histories, and making appropriate recommendations for corrective action. They assist with the development of tools and reports as well as provide technical support, resources, and guidance to program areas and other OCFS staff. These positions provide technical support to Local DSS during their fatality investigations with an eye towards ensuring the health and safety of surviving siblings and that the family is provided the support and services they require. Adequate staffing is required to ensure the accurate completion of this critical body of work. An experienced fatality report writer can competently and safely maintain a caseload of only 14 open reports. Responsibilities, in addition to report writing, include:- Extensive technical assistance and supports to the regional office regarding regulatory requirements and best practices related to investigations and case practice- Technical assistance regarding CONNECTIONS casework documentation and data entry - Direct data entry into Child Fatality Review Program system and share point- Development of Program Improvement Plan citations- Data base testing - Analysis of data from fatality reviews regarding trends, corrective actions and training needs - Coordination with other OCFS program areas (ie. HFNY, DV, CACs)- Drafting sections of the CPS manual- Expedited case reviews and reports for OCFS executive staff on high profile cases- Peer review of all draft fatality reports, including NYC- Assistance with Best Interest Determination for FOIL requests- Development and maintenance of fatality review and report writing manuals and other tools- Participate in child fatality prevention initiatives. Additional Comments Note: All candidates appointed to this title must be able to fulfill the transportation-related duties of the title at the time of appointment, and throughout their tenure in the title.A valid NYS Driver’s license is required.Background Investigation Requirements:1) All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
