The Optima Data Services team is responsible for providing all data required to calculate and manage credit risk, across all our asset classes and business units. We develop, enhance and maintain a set of cloud services that ingest, transform, cache and query a large and diverse data set. The platform must meet the highest standards of performance and reliability, as these components are critical to Citi trading and risk management.Good knowledge of core Java (11 or higher) is essential, along with the standard tools and techniques of enterprise software delivery e.g. continuous build & deployment, unit and system testing, Git/Bitbucket, Maven and Jira. Candidates must be familiar with basic Java threading, I/O and RPC (REST) patterns. All components are deployed to our internal cloud platform; exposure to Kubernetes, Openshift or public cloud platforms is highly desired. Exposure to Big Data patterns and platforms is an asset.Development tasks will include both functional delivery, working closely with BAs to implement new business logic, and non-functional enhancements. In 2023 we will be transitioning from database back-ends to a new unified in-memory data grid. Experience of local and/or distributed performance optimisation, tuning and resilience techniques would be useful. The dev team is supported by a comprehensive devops organisation.We are adjusting our location strategy to add development capability in the New York area; the NY sub-team will be a component of our overall, globally distributed data services team and the encompassing Optima Platform Team.For this Associate role, a degree in a relevant subject and at least three years of commercial Java programming experience are required. Experience in investment banking (particularly relating to risk and trading systems) is beneficial but not essential - we will consider non-finance candidates with significant cloud and/or data grid experience. A basic understanding of financial services concepts is required for all candidates.Responsibilities:

Utilize knowledge of applications development procedures and concepts, and basic knowledge of other technical areas to identify and define necessary system enhancements, including using script tools and analyzing/interpreting code

Consult with users, clients, and other technology groups on issues, and recommend programming solutions, install, and support customer exposure systems

Apply fundamental knowledge of programming languages for design specifications.

Analyze applications to identify vulnerabilities and security issues, as well as conduct testing and debugging

Serve as advisor or coach to new or lower level analysts

Identify problems, analyze information, and make evaluative judgements to recommend and implement solutions

Resolve issues by identifying and selecting solutions through the applications of acquired technical experience and guided by precedents

Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.

Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.

Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.

Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

2-4 years of relevant experience in the Financial Service industry

Intermediate level experience in Applications Development role

Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication

Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills

Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
