Inspects all cogeneration equipment and makes repairs as required. Tests and documents all established parameters associated with all cogeneration equipment (both mechanical and chemical.)Job Responsibility
Assist in the day to day operations, maintenance and repairs of the Co-gen plant and auxiliary equipment associated with it.
Must be able to dismantle a diesel Engine with limited to no instruction from Management or outside Vendors.
Maintain a close professional relationship with all outside contractors responsible for performing work on the co-generation system, ex. National Grid, Con Ed etc.
Ensure the proper operations and maintenance of the Cogeneration electrical system and its interface with the Hospitals electrical distribution system.
Track energy savings in terms of energy saved and dollars saved.
Prepare all necessary reports required to communicate the status of the plant and work to be performed. Ex. Shutdown reports, safety reports, energy saving reports, etc.
Observe various meters and gauges in Cogeneration plant and take appropriate action to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the power plant.
Monitor report and maintain proper level of supply of all the chemicals used in the cogeneration plant. Chemicals include cooling tower chemicals, waste heat boiler chemicals. Ammonia for the catalytic converter, and any other chemicals required for the proper operation of the plant.
Assist in the proper operation and maintenance of the heating, cooling, ventilation, power generation and any other auxiliary equipment associated within the power plant.
Start, stop, switch over engine generators and associated equipment as appropriate
Complete all assigned work such as repacking of valves as needed, change piping, cleaning and painting in Co-Gen Plant as needed, lubrication of the boiler engines, generators, compressors, pumps and related parts on a regular basis.
Ensure that the waste heat boilers and catalytic converter are performing within acceptable operating parameters.
Ensure that all repairs and/or replacement of broken or work parts, valves, meters, levels, etc. with the power plant are performed in a timely manner.
Keep up a log on plants waste heat boiler, radiator and cooling tower water samples
Assign proper chemical treatment to waste heat boiler and cooling waters as well as the stand by generator glycol cooling loops
Document all major repair needs and unsafe conditions.
Ensure that the power plant is kept clean and orderly
Assist Plant Operations personnel in performing periodic inspections of mechanical rooms/ Patient Rooms throughout Staten Island University Hospital to ensure proper operation of Temperature, Humidity, Pressure relations and medical support equipment, Ex Vacuum pumps, air compressors, etc.
Check temperature and pressure gauges periodically and take remedial action as required.
Ensure that all urgent corrective routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems are performed on a timely basis
Maintain records, reports, log, statistics and files, as required.
Perform other duties as directed.
ADA Essential FunctionsPhysical Demands:Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift and move heavy materials and equipment weighing approximately 100 lbs.Job Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Military experience preferred
Minimum of one (1) year of experience with Co-gen plant, preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in maintenance and repair of HVAC high pressure equipment including centrifugal refrigeration units, cooling towers, pumps, motors and air handling system, required.
Minimum of three (3) years Diesel Mechanic experience, required.
Certification in G-99 Anhydrous Ammonia for heat treating and use of Anhydrous Ammonia with duplicating machines.
Certificate of Fitness from NYC Fire Department- C42, A35, F60, G60, G91,G99 required with in (6) months of employment.
Read, write and speak English to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions, prepares forms and work logs.
